Engineering Manager (Service Product Design Authority)
Location: Remote (UK) + Quarterly International Travel
Salary: Up to £80k + Package A Global Engineering Leader in Advanced Electromechanical Process Systems is looking to appoint an Engineering Manager to act as the design authority for service‑engineered products. Their systems support high‑tech manufacturing across the world and the service division plays a vital part in keeping equipment safe, compliant and reliable. If you're an Engineering Manager who likes to get stuck in, make decisive technical calls and see the impact of your work across a global installed base, this is a role that will keep you fully engaged. As Engineering Manager, you'll act as the technical authority for a portfolio of complex service products used across advanced manufacturing. It's upgrade development, lifecycle engineering and full design ownership. If you like steering the engineering direction rather than waiting for someone else to make the call, this is your environment. This isn't the sort of role where you sit back and issue instructions. You'll be right in the middle of engineering reviews, approving design decisions, shaping delivery plans and making sure every solution released into the field is solid, compliant and ready for real‑world use. The work is genuinely varied which means one moment you're deep in mechanical analysis, the next you're resolving an electrical or systems challenge that needs a clear decision. You'll take high‑level roadmap ideas and turn them into structured engineering projects that can actually be delivered. Scoping, prioritising, balancing workloads and keeping momentum when things shift will all sit under your ownership. If you like an environment that rewards quick thinking backed by proper engineering judgement, you'll do well here. Reliability and root cause work is a core part of the role. You'll use methods such as FMEA and 8D to stay ahead of issues, cut warranty noise and improve how equipment performs over its lifecycle. Data will back up your decisions. This is real engineering, not box ticking. The global element is what makes it unique. You'll be working with teams across Europe, Asia and the US while staying closely connected to the UK engineering hubs in Bristol and Burgess Hill. You'll help raise standards, support development, build good engineering habits and drive a culture where accountability is taken seriously. What you'll need to bring
1. An Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or a related discipline
2. Strong engineering background in mechatronics, electromechanical systems, mechanical AND electrical / control software or systems engineering
3. Experience of Service Products for compliance-heavy, safety-focused industries such as semiconductor equipment, chemical process machinery, wet-process systems, industrial automation, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, or similar
4. Around 10 years of engineering experience with at least 5 years in leadership or technical authority roles
5. Experience acting as a design authority in a regulated or safety‑focused environment
6. Proven delivery of product upgrades or complex service product developments
7. Experience working across multi‑platform engineering involving hardware and software
8. Clear understanding of compliance frameworks such as CE Marking, ISO, RoHS, REACH or SEMI standards
9. Strong grounding in engineering change control, versioning and retrofit processes
10. Competence with FMEA, 8D and reliability tools including Weibull analysis
11. Confident decision making using first‑principles thinking
12. Good capability with data tools such as MATLAB, Minitab or Excel modelling
13. A collaborative approach that works well across cultures and time zones
14. Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex engineering topics
Travel will include quarterly visits to Europe, China, Japan and South Korea alongside UK travel to Bristol and Burgess Hill. This is a role for someone who wants clarity, ownership and the satisfaction of driving engineering outcomes that genuinely matter. If you want technical depth, global influence and a role that stays interesting, this one delivers. Location & Travel Remote across the UK. Quarterly travel to Europe, China, Japan and South Korea plus visits to Bristol and Burgess Hill.
