Telecoms are a key part of the network’s business and a cornerstone in the evolution towards Net Zero. ScottishPower are recruiting a Senior Network Management Centre (NMC) Engineer to play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of Scottish Power’s strategic telecoms network. As an SME, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of network operations, defining best practice and ensuring compliance. Be an advocate for improving network performance, maximising uptime of services, and optimise network infrastructure to deliver excellent communication services. The prompt and effective resolution of Major Incidents and proactive mitigation through investigation of the operational telecoms network. What you’ll be doing As a Senior NMC Engineer, you will be an SME which involves taking responsibility for all aspects of network operations, defining best practice and ensuring compliance. You will be an advocate for improving network performance, maximising uptime of services, and optimise network infrastructure to deliver excellent communication services whilst driving prompt and effective resolution of Major Incidents and proactive mitigation through investigation of the operational telecoms network. Within this position, you can expect to be responsible for: Network management checks: Conducting routine checks, ensuring network health and stability, assuring that all systems are secure and protected from threats and attacks. Management and assurance of network CMDB. Network monitoring and resolution standards: Maintaining the monitoring, incident management and fault resolution standards and policies. Vendor management : Working with vendors to maintain and improve operational performance and practices. Performance management: Setting and reviewing operational KPIs. Observing network traffic patterns and identify improvements. Supporting event configuration and operational best practices. Proactive problem management : Identifying and managing network vulnerabilities and manage improvements. Working closely with cross-functional teams within Scottish Power and vendors to implement changes and improvements to the network. Assure documentation: Performing assurance checks to ensure they are comprehensive, accurate, up-to-date and suitable for the management of live network services. Service acceptance checks and approvals : Performing checks on service changes and improvements, and approving network changes. Emergency response: Participating in incident resolution calls as a point of escalation maintaining communications with key stakeholders. Change management: Managing and supporting changes in the telecom's environment. What you’ll bring The successful candidate will: Have SME level technical knowledge of Transmission Networks including PDH/SDH, MPLS TP, DWDM and associated network Management Systems. Technical knowledge of Network Architecture and Network Management Systems. Administration on OSS Systems, Configuring/ Customizing/ Building Windows operating systems, High availability, Linux, SQL databases, VMWare, DNS, Power BI, Scripting An understanding of IP/ protocols: IPv6, NTP, DNS, OSPF, BGP, SCTP, MTP, MPLS IP, STP etc. Experience in Firewalls, Linux Servers, Python Scripting Language, VMware vCentre beneficial. Experience of using test optimal test strategies, methodologies, and principals for critical telecom services. Knowledge within an operations environment using service management frameworks such as ITIL, with experience of managing network incidents and problems. Expertise in network deployment, monitoring, management and troubleshooting, with knowledge of Network Management Systems such as Cisco Prime, Nokia NFM-P, Network monitoring and configuration tools and software, and the ability to optimise configurations. Prior experience working in a business-critical environment, with strong interpersonal skills and comfortable partnering across the business and with vendors and suppliers. Minimum Requirements: A degree in a related discipline supported by relevant certifications in network Transmission systems including PDH/SDH, MPLS TP and/or IP (CISCO and/or Nokia) Demonstrable experience as a Senior NMC Engineer, Senior Engineer or equivalent.
