About the Role

This is a Fixed Term contract for 15 months (12 months apprenticeship and 3 months EPA).

Level 2 Apprenticeship

Rates Age Annual Salary

Under 18 £12,655

18-20 £16,900

21+ £22,359

We are looking for an animal welfare apprentice to join our team; the successful candidate will care for our animals in our animal care centre on-site at Temple Newsam and will also facilitate small groups of students in practical areas and support the preparation of practical lessons.

The School of Animal Care and Land Management is a growing and aspirational department based at Temple Newsam in Leeds. Our team consists of a Head of Department, Deputy Head of Department, Programme managers, Course Leader, Teachers, learning support assistants (LSA) and Instructor/Technicians. Our team work to support our learners to achieve their full potential and achieve their vocational qualifications.

What You Will Do

1. Maintain high standards of animal welfare at all times by ensuring optimum animal husbandry.
2. Maintain high levels of cleanliness in the animal care centre.
3. Order consumables and equipment for the curriculum area.
4. Prepare facilities and equipment for teaching.
5. Maintain and organise teaching spaces in relation to curriculum need.
6. Facilitate small groups of students in practical areas.
7. Maintain 20% off job training.

About You

8. Have a minimum of a level 1 qualification in a related subject.
9. Have recent experience working with a range of animals.
10. Work well as part of a team and be resilient, adaptable and enthusiastic.
11. Have excellent communication skills and be happy working with people as well as being able to work independently when required.
12. Have a level 2 in English and Maths; whilst this is an advantage however it is not an essential requirement as you can undertake English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship
