Based in our Newcastle, UK office, the European Finance Associate will play a key supporting role in general accounting functions, including preparation of journal entries, month-end close, compiling special accounting reports, and balancing general and subsidiary ledgers. Process customer payments (cheques, credit cards, wire transfers) and apply to accounts accurately. Match vendor invoices with internal documentation and secure departmental approvals. Post invoices to the accounts payable system with correct general ledger coding. Reconcile accounts payable with the general ledger and ensure timely vendor payments. Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations. Assist with daily accounting operations and maintain subsidiary ledgers. Manage fixed asset records and generate compliance/depreciation reports. Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and relevant financial regulations. Maintain organised financial records and assist with audit preparation. Contribute to special projects and provide ad hoc support to the Finance Manager. AAT Level 2 required; AAT Level 3 or equivalent qualification preferred. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in finance or accounting roles. Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with AS400 and Infor/Mapics is a plus. Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis). Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance standards. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage and interpret large datasets accurately.
