Role Overview
As a Functional Skills Trainer at Cambridge Spark, you will have dedicated and specific responsibilities related to supporting learners through their Functional Skills (FS) programmes and Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) requirements, specifically focused on Maths and English. You will ensure that learners with FS/SEND requirements and additional support needs receive the additional support they require, either directly or through coordination with existing team members, additional equipment, or adaptations to learning activities.
You will deliver both one-to-one and group support sessions to help learners with known additional requirements navigate and overcome challenges to ensure progress to plan in their apprenticeship programme. The role will work closely with Service Delivery and the Training department to understand the specific needs of learners with FS/SEND requirements and additional support needs and develop strategies to support their learning and development.
The Functional Skills Trainer will provide guidance and support to learners with additional needs as needed, including helping them to understand and complete coursework, develop study skills, and build confidence in their ability to succeed. You will support the wider teams to determine progress for learners via maintaining accurate records and documentation related to the support provided to learners with SEND requirements and additional support needs.
To be successful in this role, you should have strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of learners and support staff. You should also be organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
* Compliance: Ensure timely completion and submission of paperwork within Cambridge Spark timeframes.
* Delivery: Design and implement innovative and engaging teaching and learning strategies, alongside delivery of Functional Skills workshops.
* Team Collaboration: Working alongside the Service Delivery team to offer proactive and reactive support for learners requiring Functional Skills or support related to SEND.
* Support: Providing 1:1 support to learners with Functional Skills and or SEND needs. This involves working with learners to develop individualised learning plans, providing accommodations and support during learning sessions, and helping learners to develop strategies for managing their needs in the learning environment.
* Reporting: Provide routine reporting on attendance and progressions towards Functional Skills, to managers on request and ensuring all learner support plans are updated and that adjustments are seamlessly communicated with all relevant stakeholders.
* Quality: Ensure that Quality Assurance practices/requirements are met.
* Progress: Responsible for tracking and monitoring the progress of learners with SEND and those needing additional support, and using this information to adjust support strategies as needed to ensure all learners receive our ‘gold standard’ of delivery and achieve timely completion.
* Development: Be committed to staying up to date with best practices in supporting learners with SEND and those needing additional support with Functional Skills. This will involve participating in professional development opportunities and staying informed about current research and trends in the field.
* To support with any ad-hoc duties or requests that may be reasonably required to successfully carry out the role or to support the business.
Candidate Specification:
Essential:
* Degree-level qualification
* 3+ years teaching, tutoring or coaching experience
* Experience of working with learners with SEND
* 3+ years experience in supporting learners with Functional Skills qualifications
* Working knowledge of current best practices in SEND, including Equality Act 2010, Person-centred practices and the Graduated Approach
* Committed to student success and supporting learners to fulfill their potential
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Desirable:
* Experience in a role of a similar nature within a regulated funding provision (Teaching/Apprenticeships)
* QTS/PGCE/PTLLS (or similar)
* Qualifications within SEND (e.g. SENDCo)
* Experience of using learner management platforms (Aptem/HubSpot/BKSB)
* Experience and understanding of change management processes in a fast-growing provision
