Overview
We are currently looking for a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our friendly emergency care therapy team. The Rapid Emergency Assessment Care Team (REACT) comprising Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants aims to avoid hospital admission by providing comprehensive Therapy assessments within the Accident and Emergency Department. Timely discharge assessments are provided for patients on the medical assessment and short stay wards, and assessment and detailed intervention plans ensure that their journey through the hospital is assisted. The service enables opportunities for interdisciplinary working with medical, nursing and social care colleagues across frailty, emergency care and community services. There are opportunities to be part of service development. The service operates 7 days a week on a fixed four week repeating rota, with the successful candidate required to work one weekend every 4 weeks.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the multidisciplinary team across A&E and the assessment and short stay wards to prevent admission or facilitate early discharge as part of a 7 day service.
* Assist therapy staff to provide high quality interventions through the delivery of therapy, without direct supervision or jointly with the therapist, in individual, group and multi-disciplinary settings.
* Assist with the delivery of therapy through the maintenance and preparation of therapy equipment and materials.
* Contribute to the operational delivery of services and service development.
* Carry out specified assessments, interventions and programmes under the direct supervision of a qualified clinician.
* Report progress of patients during the implementation of planned interventions and programmes.
* Work with individuals or groups in settings appropriate to patient needs.
* Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients, contributing to a service sensitive to these needs.
* Ensure patient safety and dignity at all times, using relevant methods to manage patients with challenging behaviours.
* Utilise effective communication skills to ensure clinical advice and treatment programmes are delivered sensitively.
* Liaise with multidisciplinary team following discussion with a qualified clinician.
* Ensure accurate, up-to-date clinical records are kept, with security and confidentiality at all times.
* Record and submit clinical activity data as required by the Trust in an accurate and timely manner.
* Be responsible for safe and competent use of equipment including provision of support, education and training to other staff, patients and carers as required.
* Be responsible for maintenance, cleaning, monitoring and loan of equipment, maintaining its security and keeping accurate records as required.
* Be responsible for ordering and stock control of materials and equipment as required.
* Support administrative and housekeeping duties as required.

* Gain appropriate support from senior colleagues and participate in supervision/peer review to enhance clinical practice.

* Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others, by taking action or alerting senior management if practice appears to contravene policy or if concerned about any aspect of patient care.

* Take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to learn, including appraisal, supervision, action learning and maintaining a professional portfolio of learning.
