KierBAM is a Joint Venture partnership between Kier and BAM. We are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and are seeking an experienced Procurement Manager. The role is responsible for overseeing the acquisition of goods and services required by the organization, developing procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts and ensuring timely and cost‑effective purchasing to support operational needs.
Security Clearance
Due to the sensitive nature of the site, a BPSS security clearance is required. This process can take up to eight weeks. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been residents of the UK for the last five years can be considered for this role.
Location and Contract
* Location: Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth
* Contract: Permanent, 42.5 hours per week
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement procurement policies, procedures and strategies
* Identify, evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery and reliability
* Negotiate contracts, terms and pricing with suppliers and vendors
* Manage the end‑to‑end procurement process including purchase requisitions, purchase orders and delivery tracking
* Monitor supplier performance and resolve any supply issues or disputes
* Collaborate with internal departments to forecast demand and plan procurement activities
* Maintain accurate procurement records and prepare regular reports on procurement status, savings and supplier performance
* Ensure compliance with company policies, legal regulations and ethical standards
* Lead and develop the procurement team
* Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement
* Perform other tasks as directed by the company within your capabilities, with proper training and support provided when necessary
Qualifications
Essential
* Professionally qualified operator with at least 5 years post‑professional qualification experience or 8 years experience
* Academic qualification in a commercial field (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng)
* Experience in a similar role, preferably in the nuclear or defence sector
* CSCS – White PQP/AQP
* Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in procurement or supply chain management
* Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
* Excellent analytical, organisational and decision‑making abilities
* Understanding of contract law and vendor management
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines
Desirable
* Leadership and team management experience
* Professional certification (e.g., CIPS, CPPM)
