Central Medical Centre are seeking a dynamic individual who is eager to take ownership of the role of practice nurse and contribute positively to our small, friendly practice team in Coventry.
This is a 12-month fixed-term position with the opportunity to become permanent following a successful review, offering continuity and the chance to make a real impact in a supportive environment.
Main duties of the job
* Chronic Disease Management: Experience in managing chronic conditions, such as asthma, COPD, and diabetes, with an ability to provide patient-centred care plans and reviews. A prescribing qualification is highly desirable to further enhance chronic disease management support.
* Womens Health Services Including cervical screening (smears) and contraceptive advice, in line with UK standards and guidelines.
* Childhood Immunisations Providing vaccinations and immunisation support, promoting a healthy start for children.
* Travel Health Advice and Vaccinations Supporting patients with essential travel health services, including vaccination administration and patient education on travel-related health.
* Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Offering lifestyle advice, smoking cessation support, and proactive health education to improve patients' well-being.
* Wound Care and Management Delivering assessment and management of wounds, including dressings and suture removal, ensuring best-practice care and timely healing.
* Minor Procedures Assisting with minor surgical procedures within your competence.
* Infection Control and Cold Chain Management Ensuring safe infection control practices and adherence to vaccination storage protocols.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Deliver treatment room services including:
* Chronic disease management (asthma, COPD, diabetes reviews and personalised care plans).
* Womens health services cervical screening (smears), contraceptive advice, and assisting with IUCD/IUS fittings.
* Childhood immunisations and travel vaccinations.
* Health promotion and disease prevention (lifestyle advice, smoking cessation).
* Wound care and management (dressings, suture removal).
* Minor procedures assisting with minor surgical interventions within competence.
* Patient Health Checks conducting NHS Health Checks and Learning Disability Health Checks as per national guidance.
* Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnose, and prescribe safely within scope of practice (if qualified).
Leadership & Governance
* Cervical Screening Lead-
Ensure compliance with NHSCSP standards.
Monitor sample adequacy and coverage.
Maintain audit and training records.
* Infection Prevention and Control Lead-
Conduct audits and implement action plans.
Ensure adherence to national IPC guidance and CQC requirements.
* Participate in clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
Teaching & Mentorship: Support students and trainees as part of our teaching practice ethos.
Safeguarding: Ensure safeguarding policies are followed and concerns escalated appropriately.
Documentation & IT
* Maintain accurate clinical records using EMIS templates
* Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality standards.
Cold Chain Management: Ensure safe vaccine storage and handling.
Probation and Performance
* Performance objectives
Complete induction and demonstrate competence in treatment room duties.
Establish cervical screening audit and IPC audit schedule within first 3 months.
Maintain compliance with practice protocols and national standards.
Person Specification
Skills & Knowledge
* Competent in wound care and treatment room duties.
* Knowledge of Infection prevention and control standards.
* Knowledge of safeguarding principles for children and vulnerable adults.
* Ability to contribute to audits and quality improvement.
Qualifications
* Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
* Qualified cervical smear sample taker
* Qualifications in Childhood/Routine Vaccines, Contraception, Chronic Disease management or Wound care management
* Mentorship qualification or experience of mentoring students.
Experience
* Primary care nursing experience.
* Chronic disease management (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes) and conducting annual reviews
* Travel health and immunisation experience.
* Experience using EMIS clinical system and templates
* Leadership or supervisory experience within a nursing team
* Assisting with IUCD/IUS fittings and minor procedures.
* Understanding of population health management and health inequalities
