Graduate Mathematical Modeller Location: Ormskirk, West Lancashire Salary: £28,500 Qualifications: Degree in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering WHO ARE WE? THE ROLE A vacancy has arisen for a Graduate Mathematical Modeller to join the Modelling and Simulation team at the R&D Technical Centre in Lathom, Ormskirk. The Modelling and Simulation team provides support to the Automotive and Architectural Business Units. Initially this role will focus on Automotive applications, supporting the Global Automotive Simulation Centre and R&D Shaping team by developing product and process simulations to assess feasibility and extend manufacturing capability; with the goal of achieving virtual prototyping. The team uses commercial software packages and develops its own codes for a variety of applications including glass bending and heat transfer. Key responsibilities will be to understand our manufacturing process and modelling techniques to support the Automotive business. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to develop new product and process simulations, using commercial codes or developing software. They will also help to maintain legacy codes by specifying user requirements, updating code to avoid obsolescence, testing code or training key users. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? You and your Skills 2:1 degree in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering with an interest in computing or 2:1 degree in Computer science with demonstrable skills in Maths and Physics. Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people from across the organisation. Ability to solve complex problems. Interest in mathematical modelling, finite element analysis and computer programming. The role is predominantly office based, an interest in the practical application of methods and a willingness to work in prototyping and manufacturing environments is required.
