X2 Electrical Shift Engineers
Location: Birmingham
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off rotation (7:00am - 7:00pm / 7:00pm - 7:00am)
General Overview
PPM Recruitment are currently seeking Two experienced Electrical Shift Engineer to join a large, critical healthcare estate based in Birmingham.
This is a key shift-based role responsible for delivering engineering maintenance services across a complex acute hospital environment. You will ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM), statutory testing, and reactive maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently and in line with HTM guidance, contractual obligations and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical Duties
Deliver electrical planned preventative maintenance and reactive works across the estate
Interpret and work from technical drawings, specifications and instructions independently
Ensure all works comply with current regulations, HTMs, CDM and Health & Safety standards
Manage and validate maintenance records via CAFM systems and digital platforms
Support lifecycle planning and condition surveys through accurate plant data reporting
Carry out inspections of tools, plant, access and safety equipment
Management & Leadership Responsibilities
Provide operational support and first-line management across shift activities
Manage team absence and rota coverage effectively
Validate timesheets, on-call sheets and annual leave requests
Conduct minimum 10% monthly audit checks on completed works
Carry out Management Safety Visits and compliance audits
Ensure SLA response and rectification times are achieved
Act swiftly during emergencies to protect people, property and service delivery
Manage incidents of non-compliance in line with contract requirements
Environment
The role will involve working in sensitive and critical areas including:
ITU
A&E Admissions
Operating Theatres
Mortuary areasOccasional exposure to emotionally sensitive environments may occur.
Impact of the Role
This position is essential in ensuring the hospital estate is maintained to the highest standard, meeting all statutory compliance and operational requirements within a live healthcare environment.
You will play a vital role in supporting engineering operations across the entire estate and ensuring continuous service provision within a 24/7 critical infrastructure setting.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Minimum 5 years' management experience within NHS or critical infrastructure environment
Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent
Healthcare or Healthcare PFI experience
City & Guilds Electrical Installation qualification (one of the following):
C&G 236 Parts 1, 2 & 3
C&G 2360 Parts 1, 2, 3
C&G 2330 Level 2 & 3
C&G 2560 (2357) Diploma
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
C&G 2394 & 2395 Testing & Inspection
Strong working knowledge of LV & HV systems
Experience working to HTMs and healthcare compliance standardsDesirable
ONC / HNC / HND in relevant discipline
HTM Authorised Person status (MGPS, Ventilation, LV/HV)
Confined Spaces Authorisation
IPAF (MEWP)
IOSH / NEBOSH
IWFM certification
Degree or Master's in Engineering
