Job Description

The Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) manages key environmental monitoring systems and datasets. You will join a multi‑disciplinary team, support and learn from colleagues, and analyse and improve data that underpins our work.
The Technical Advisor helps manage these systems and data, provides user support, and works across our Water Quality systems and other systems as needed. You will be involved in:
* Setting up and managing users
* Supporting users and resolving issues, especially as we transition to our new My Environment application
* Updating, improving, and maintaining datasets
* Responding to internal and external data requests
* Supporting system improvement and upgrade projects
Everyone who joins us must undertake training and participate in incident response duties when required. Incident roles are an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and help protect communities and the environment.

Experience and Skills Required
* Experience working with large complex datasets.
* Willingness to develop and learn new technical skills and apply them across monitoring data and systems.
* A motivated, organised, friendly and helpful person with an eye for detail, comfortable working in a dispersed team environment.
* A proactive individual who enjoys solving problems.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others, and provide excellent customer service.
Other Desirable Experience and Skills
* Experience using and managing environmental monitoring data systems.
* Experience using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R.
* A working knowledge of water‑quality monitoring.
Contact and Additional Information
Work location is flexible with a base required at one of our offices across England; hybrid home/office working is offered but some travel is expected for meetings. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams toward the end of December/beginning of January. An apprenticeship is available for the successful candidate.
