Principal Engineer - Systems Engineering (Integration, Validation & Verification)
Barrow or Manchester | 12-Month Contract | Inside IR35 (Umbrella or PAYE)
Hybrid working: 3-4 days onsite, with travel to Rochester & Warton as required
Are you an experienced Systems Engineer with a passion for complex integration and cutting-edge defence systems? Join a high-impact programme supporting the UK submarine fleet as a Principal Systems Integration & Validation Engineer. You'll lead and deliver engineering solutions that bring control systems to life in real-world environments.
What You'll Be Doing:
1. Designing and setting up IV&V (Integration, Validation & Verification) facilities and SIM/STIM test rigs
2. Supporting test programmes through to system certification for advanced control systems
3. Leading technical work packages across multidisciplinary teams and mentoring other engineers
4. Managing C&I equipment delivery and ensuring solutions meet customer needs
5. Supporting the design, development, and qualification of high-integrity systems used on in-build or in-service vessels
What You'll Bring:
1. Proven experience in Systems Engineering and strong knowledge of C&I system design
2. Full lifecycle understanding of systems engineering - from requirements to validation
3. Familiarity with Defence or Industry standards such as IEC 61508 / ARP 4754 / DO-178C
4. Degree qualified in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or a related STEM subject
5. Chartership or actively working towards it
6. Confident communicator with leadership experience, and able to influence across teams and stakeholders
