About the Role
This is an exciting time for a self-motivated person to join us as a Technician in Highways Development Management as we take forward Gloucestershire’s 2050 Vision. The role will involve making comments on planning applications on behalf of the Highway Authority, seeking to challenge the conventions around the reallocation of road space, creating walkable neighbourhoods and delivering green infrastructure with low carbon design. Our Highways Development Management section is at the heart of this work, helping to enable planned growth in a sustainable manner that contributes to our ambitious carbon reduction goals. We are focused on the sustainable growth of the economy by developing jobs, housing and the transport infrastructure across a diverse county with vibrant towns, high quality rural areas and excellent schools. As a Technician you will assist the senior team members in providing highways and transport advice as part of our statutory Development Management function.
About You
To be successful, we are looking for a self motivated person, whilst you may not have previous experience in Highways Development Management, you must be willing to learn. Support will be given with training and there will be a mentoring system in place. Although previous experience is not essential, there will be a pre interview assessment where successful candidates will be expected to show an understanding of the Highways Development Management process, the issues often raised on minor planning applications and associated national and local policies and guidance. You should be able to work and meet the challenges of learning new skills whilst in a busy environment with strict deadlines. Ideally you would wish to use this role to progress your career and experience within Highways Development Management and we seek people who show the potential to take on more senior roles following experience and training. The work will be fast paced; we will expect you to think on your feet and be ready to tackle challenges to grow the County’s vision.
