Salary up to £70,000 DOE
Mainstone Practice is a long-established veterinary surgery in Romsey, proudly serving the local community for many years. We’re now looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our warm and supportive team, becoming part of a practice where relationships, continuity of care and genuine teamwork are at the heart of everything we do.
A Varied Caseload with Plenty of Clinical Interest
Our patients are primarily cats and dogs, alongside rabbits, small furries and the occasional wildlife case, from hedgehogs to birds of prey. Your week will include a well-balanced mix of consultations and surgery, with a caseload that is both varied and rewarding. While much of our work involves routine procedures, we also see orthopaedic cases and occasional emergency presentations, ensuring plenty of clinical variety. There are elements of sole charge within the role, so we’re looking for a vet who feels confident making independent clinical decisions when needed.
Well-Equipped to Deliver Excellent Patient Care
We’ve invested significantly in our facilities to support the delivery of high-quality patient care. Our practice is fully equipped with multiparameter monitoring in both theatre and dental, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, syringe drivers, multiple infusion pumps, comprehensive in-house IDEXX laboratory equipment, a floating X-ray table, and a dedicated dental suite with dental radiography. We’re also proud to hold Silver Cat Friendly status, with dedicated cat‑only clinic times designed to create a calm and stress‑free environment for our feline patients.
A Purpose-Built Practice with a Unique Setting
Our purpose-built practice is set within a charming barn conversion, creating a welcoming and thoughtfully designed environment. Facilities include a bright reception area with separate cat and dog waiting spaces, three consultation rooms (including a dedicated RVN consult room), a prep area with theatre, a dental suite with dental X‑ray, a separate X‑ray room, kennels and cattery, a quiet vet office for admin time, a fully equipped laboratory, and a comfortable staff area along with generous on‑site parking.
A Working Pattern That Supports Balance
This is a full‑time role of 40 hours per week, working between 8:30am and 7pm, with one in five Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 12:30pm. There is no out‑of‑hours work, and we’re happy to consider part‑time applications for the right candidate. This is a fixed‑term contract for 12 months. There is also a potential for this role to become a permanent roving vet role after the 12 months is completed.
A Friendly, Experienced Team Who Support Each Other
You’ll be joining a friendly and experienced team of six vets, six RVNs and a dedicated client care team. We’re proud to have certificate holders in ophthalmology and ECC, and we actively support colleagues who would like to pursue further study or work towards their own certificate. As an RVN training practice, learning, collaboration and professional development are part of our everyday culture.
Proud to Be Part of the Local Community
Being part of the community is incredibly important to us. We regularly attend events such as the Romsey Show and Dogstival, visit local schools and Brownies groups, host practice open days, and support events like the New Forest Show. It’s something we genuinely enjoy and are proud to be involved in.
