Overview
We’re looking for a Design Engineer to help build our next generation Developer Experience (DevEx) platform at Citi. You’ll be joining a small, high-impact team, shaping the daily lives of our 50,000 engineers globally.
What you’ll do
1. By day 45 — Build a component used by engineers in production. Identify a pain point in the engineering workflow and solve it—for example, jumping between a JIRA issue and related builds or pull requests. Design in Figma, implement the interaction design (CSS animations, d3.js) in Storybook, and ship the finished UI component to production. Outcome: your component will help engineers complete a key task at least 50% faster.
2. By 3 months — Validate what we’re building and create relationships across the org. Actively seek feedback through informal and formal user testing sessions and begin capturing metrics to show the impact of your work.
3. By 6 months — Establish a base of UI components and patterns that shape the way engineers interact with their developer workflows. You will have shipped several components (e.g., a CI/CD status view or a widget that shows production errors) and started extracting reusable patterns for our design system. Outcome: components are built in Storybook and shipped to production, influencing other teams.
4. By 12 months — Own and evolve key parts of the developer experience. You will own parts of the design and front-end implementations of complete workflows (for example, the flow from a JIRA ticket to production) and have meaningful impact on our users.
What you’ll bring
* Strong front-end engineering skills: TypeScript (JS), React, CSS, and data visualization tools like d3.js.
* Strong product/design skills: proficient in Figma, interaction design, and component reuse.
* Comfortable taking part in either formal or informal user research: talk to users early and often, integrating insights into your work.
* Ability to innovate: excited to push the boundaries in design and engineering with your unique skillset that brings strengths from both worlds.
Tools you’ll use
* React, TypeScript, REST APIs, VS Code
* Figma, Storybook, and internal design systems
* Mac or PC — whichever you prefer
* Access to time-saving AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cognition.ai’s Devin
Why you’ll love working here
* You’ll shape the daily experience of tens of thousands of engineers at one of the world’s largest engineering organizations.
* You’ll work in a small, autonomous team with impact across Citi’s global organization.
* You’ll combine your design and engineering skills to push boundaries others can’t and change the way internal platforms are made.
What we’ll provide
By joining Citi Belfast, you will be part of a business casual workplace with a hybrid working model (up to 2 days working at home per week), and you’ll receive a competitive base salary (annually reviewed) along with a range of benefits:
