We are seeking to recruit a qualified Electrician to work within our Highways Operations team.
Responsibilities
You will work with a small operational team, leading Lamp Attendants, Highway Operatives, Agency workers and Apprentices on site to install, maintain, upgrade and repair the street lighting network across the borough. This includes lamp columns, lanterns, signs, bollards, Christmas decorations, cables and infrastructure. Fault finding and repair of local authority cables, as well as installing new external electrical works and interpreting detailed drawings will be a major part of the role.
The role requires working outside of normal office hours, supporting Standby/Call out rotas and may include evening and weekend working, to meet the needs of the service. This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English as per the person specification.
You must have an understanding of the various types of plant and machinery required to undertake operational tasks, like diagnosing and remedying electrical faults, and have the skills necessary to use them.
You will be required to undertake work in a safe manner, be confident in following instructions and interpret information such as service and engineering drawings.
The role will involve paperwork so you will be required to complete any essential paperwork, working to deadlines and using your own initiative.
Qualifications
2 years' experience in an engineering / street lighting environment; must have or be working to the following certificates: BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations 16th Edition, NRSWA, IPAF VM26M, G39 Level 2, Category C1. You will be a qualified Electrician, expected to carry out physical aspects of the job such as lifting, carrying, digging and must be able to work at heights up to 12 metres.
You must have sound practical knowledge of electrical-based Health & Safety legislation & guidelines. It would be desirable to have MEWP certification or be willing to work towards gaining it.
