We currently have a vacancy for a dynamic, motivated nurse to work in the busy Cardiology Research Department within the new Barts Heart Centre. We are the biggest cardiovascular centre in Europe and have a growing portfolio of interventional research for cardiac patients. The post is for a one-year fixed term contract position in the first instance with possibility of extension or permanent contract.
The primary responsibility for this post holder is to take a leading role in the running of a portfolio of cell and gene therapy studies, initiate and manage different projects within the department. The post holder will be based within the cardiology research department at the Barts Heart centre. You might be required to cover multiple sites within the trust.
You will be an RN with significant post registration experience with a strong cardiology background. You must demonstrate strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, be computer literate, flexible and be able to manage your own time effectively. Excellent time management and IT skills are essential to the role. Experience of formal and informal teaching and clinical research will be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
TheResearchNurseisanindependentpractitionerworkingwithinthemulti-disciplinaryteam. The postholder willtakeresponsibility fortheco-ordinationandmanagement of clinicaltrials covering a clinical research portfolio with an emphasis on Cell & Gene therapy and Devices.
The post will be working predominately at Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital where the clinical trials and innovations and structural and device investigations will be delivered, however youmay berequiredtotravelacross differentsites within thetrustandto external meetings.
The post holder will be expected to develop specialised skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials and investigations in cardiac patients and increase patient participation in clinical investigations/trials whilst maintaining high quality patient care and ensuring patient safety at all times.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
2. Intravenous accreditation
3. Teaching / Mentorship course or equivalent
4. Possession of / or can demonstrate equivalence to an undergraduate degree in Nursing, Science or Health related discipline
Desirable criteria
5. Research qualification
6. Good Clinical Practice certification
7. ALS/ILS or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
8. Experience in Cardiology or Cardiac/Critical care nursing for at least 1 year
9. Experience in clinical, organisational and team management
10. Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
11. Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
