What you'll be doing
Reporting directly to the Head of Large & Complex Loss – Motability, you’ll:
1. Manage your own portfolio of high-value, catastrophic injury and complex motor claims within your delegated authority.
2. Investigate large loss claims thoroughly, working with experts where needed to ensure full validation.
3. Negotiate fair and reasonable third-party settlements using the most appropriate methods.
4. Act as a technical expert, coaching colleagues, reviewing files, and sharing legal and market developments.
5. Stay up to date with legal and procedural changes, assessing their impact and shaping DLG’s approach.
6. Provide technical advice and support to regional claims teams and other business areas.
7. Contribute to process improvements, efficiency gains, and cost savings to support profitability.
8. Influence DLG’s large loss claims strategy, identifying opportunities to enhance performance and maintain market-leading standards.
9. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and risk management requirements.
10. Represent DLG in industry discussions, review groups, or law reform conversations where required.
11. Own and manage risks in line with the DLG risk framework while developing yourself and your technical expertise.
What you'll need
12. A proven track record of handling motor personal injury claims from notification through to settlement in excess of £1m
13. In-depth understanding of common law principles and legislation relevant to motor insurance claims
14. Strategic mindset to contribute to the development of large and complex loss claims handling strategies within the organisation
