Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the job
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is home to one of the busiest and most complex cardiac and congenital cardiac surgery services in England. Our large, highly skilled perfusion team plays a critical role in delivering safe, effective care and achieving consistently excellent patient outcomes.
We are now looking to recruit experienced Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientists to join our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Care Group, a recognised regional centre of excellence.
Terms and conditions apply and will be discussed at interview.
University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.
Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.
At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.
At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognising that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.
As a senior member of the perfusion team, you will contribute to a high-performing service supporting a wide range of cardiac procedures. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a forward-thinking department with exposure to complex and varied caseloads.
Paediatric and Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) experience is desirable but not essential, with opportunities for development in these areas.
Currently, the cardiac team undertakes 1800 adults and 400 paediatric procedures per year across our five cardiac theatres. You must be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland.
This role attracts an additional Recruitment and Retention Premium (see details below), a contribution to relocation costs for eligible candidates as well as an exceptional NHSP rate for additional shifts.
You will be a team player who can bring motivation and positivity to your work environment, happy to work autonomously and in possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, with empathy and compassion at the heart of the care that you provide. You will be expected to deliver high quality care within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be well supported by an experienced inter-professional team.
The successful applicant will be expected to carry out various administrative duties associated with the role and will be delegated additional responsibilities as required. Full participation in the department on-call rota is essential.
We are committed to supporting you in your career aspirations and recognise the significant contribution your skills and expertise make to patient care. We offer a number of benefits, including development, regular interaction with, and feedback from, leaders and the chance to work on some of the UK’s leading cardiovascular research and development programmes.
