Operations Manager £85k-£95k, to 25% bonus, car Buckinghamshire
A precision engineering, manufacturing business supplying aerospace, defence and advanced engineering markets. They are investing heavily in new machines, digital shop floor systems, positioning the business for growth. They are seeking a transformational Operations Manager: a proven leader who can make a change in operational performance, culture and financial results.
The Challenge
Delivery performance, OEE, and labour efficiency require consistent improvement. Operational cadence, accountability, and KPI ownership are not yet embedded. The business needs lean/OPEX disciplines, industry-standard processes, and sharper financial control introduced. Shop floor culture requires a stronger sense of accountability, engagement, and discipline.
Ideal
Degree-qualified in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Operations Management. Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certified. 10+ years' experience in operations leadership in precision engineering, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing. Proven track record of transforming underperforming operations with double-digit improvements. Strong financial and commercial awareness (budget control, margin improvement, ROI). A visible, hands-on leader who can walk the floor, win respect, and still think strategically.
Task
This is a chance to make your mark: to take an already strong precision engineering business and lift it to the next level. You'll work directly with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, with the mandate, resources, and authority to drive transformation. For the right candidate, this role is a launchpad to Operations Director and beyond.
In your first 12–24 months, you will: Deliver measurable performance uplift in OTIF, OEE, scrap %, and efficiency. Embed lean/OPEX disciplines (daily management, visual boards, 5S, TPM, CI projects). Hold managers and supervisors accountable through one-to-ones, structured reviews, and development plans. Control operational costs against budget, improving gross margin. Build a culture of engagement and discipline — strong routines, strong leadership presence. Position Gibbs Gears for scalable growth into the next £multi-million turnover stage.
Remuneration
£85,000 – £95,000 base salary (DOE, higher for exceptional candidate). Performance bonus up to 25% based on delivery of operational KPIs. Car allowance (£6,000 pa) or company car option. Private healthcare (self + family), enhanced pension, life cover.
• 25 days holiday + bank holidays. Professional development: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt / MBA modules funded, memberships covered. Clear growth path: step into Operations Director / General Manager role as business scales, with potential for profit share or equity participation.
