Café Catering Assistant - Joe's Bistro
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Café Catering Assistant to join our hospice Catering team, working alongside our wonderful volunteers and experienced catering staff to deliver excellent food and hospitality in Joe's Bistro - the hospice café. This role supports the smooth running of Joe's Bistro and wider hospice catering services, ensuring a high standard of hospitality for patients, families, visitors, staff, and volunteers. The position is well suited to those seeking family-friendly hours, as working times are scheduled between school hours
Key Responsibilities
* Provide friendly, efficient service within Joe's Bistro, maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
* Work alongside and provide day-to-day support to café volunteers, ensuring tasks are shared fairly and service standards are maintained.
* Help create a positive, inclusive environment for volunteers, visitors, and staff, reflecting the hospice's core values of Welcoming, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
* Operate the café till and accurately handle cash and card transactions.
* Set up and maintain the front café counter to a high standard.
* Assist with food preparation, including the making of sandwiches and salads.
* Operate the dishwasher and ensure all crockery, utensils, and kitchenware are cleaned and stored appropriately.
* Organise and prepare hospitality trolleys as required.
* Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the kitchen and café areas in line with health and safety standards.
* Provide flexible support to the catering team as required.
Person Specification
Essential
* Friendly, approachable, and customer-focused attitude.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Good organisational skills with attention to detail.
* Comfortable supporting and working with volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
* Willingness to undertake a variety of catering and cleaning duties.
* REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent).
* Ability to adapt to change.
* Awareness of, and commitment to the Mission, Vision & Values of Kilbryde Hospice.
Desirable
* Previous experience in a café or catering environment.
* Experience of working alongside volunteers.
* Experience of / understanding of working within a Palliative Care Environment.
* Team-oriented with a commitment to providing excellent service within a community setting.
