Position Description:
At CGI, we engineer secure, scalable cloud platforms that enable transformation across the UK’s most critical sectors. As a Platform Engineer, you will take ownership of designing and evolving resilient digital platforms that accelerate delivery and power mission-critical services. Working across cloud infrastructure, automation, security, and observability, you will help set engineering standards and drive measurable improvements in reliability, performance, and cost efficiency. Within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will have the autonomy to innovate, influence platform strategy, and continuously improve how we deliver for our clients — shaping modern cloud ecosystems that make a national impact.

This is a hybrid position based out of Newcastle.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
In this role, you will design, automate, and continuously improve cloud platforms across multiple client programmes. You will collaborate with architects, developers, and delivery leaders to ensure platforms are secure, scalable, observable, and aligned with engineering best practice. By taking ownership of infrastructure design, automation frameworks, and governance standards, you will enable faster, safer, and more reliable delivery for mission-critical systems.
You will also play a key role in strengthening engineering capability — guiding teams on Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, containerisation, and security patterns, while contributing to bids and driving platform innovation across engagements. Supported by a strong DevOps and Platform community, you will be empowered to experiment, share knowledge, and elevate standards across the organisation.
Key responsibilities:
Design & Evolve secure, scalable cloud platforms across Azure, AWS, or GCP
Define & Automate Infrastructure as Code standards and reusable modules
Build & Optimise CI/CD pipelines for efficient, secure delivery
Enable & Support containerised workloads and orchestration platforms
Implement & Improve observability, logging, metrics, and alerting standards
Secure & Govern platforms in line with enterprise security frameworks
Troubleshoot & Resolve critical incidents, strengthening resilience and diagnostics
Optimise & Control cloud costs using FinOps principles
Influence & Contribute to bids, technical strategy, and engineering communities
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
You will bring strong hands-on experience designing and operating cloud platforms within complex environments. You combine technical depth with a pragmatic approach to balancing quality, pace, cost, and operational resilience. You are confident engaging with multidisciplinary teams and communicating technical concepts clearly.
You should have:
Proven experience designing and maintaining cloud infrastructure in Azure, AWS, or GCP
Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or CloudFormation
Experience building and operating modern CI/CD pipelines
Experience supporting containerised workloads and orchestration platforms
Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and diagnostics practices
Knowledge of secure and resilient infrastructure design aligned to enterprise standards
Experience troubleshooting platform-level incidents and driving recovery
Ability to produce clear documentation and communicate effectively with stakeholders
It would be advantageous to have:
Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud strategies
Experience contributing to technical bids or solution proposals
Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical improvement initiatives
Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, Terraform, Kubernetes)
