About the role
Administrator – Street Lighting
Office-Based | Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
Are you someone who thrives on people contact, fast-moving priorities and keeping a team organised and on track? If you’ve come from sales, recruitment or a customer-focused admin background, this could be a brilliant next step—using your relationship-building, follow-up and “make it happen” mindset in a role that genuinely keeps communities running.
This is an office-based Administrator position at our Wellingborough depot. You’ll be one of two administrators in the team, covering a variety of tasks—with a focus either on Maintenance support or Business Support, depending on the role offered.
It’s ideal for someone who enjoys:
* Being the first point of contact (calls, emails, visitors)
* Owning actions and keeping records accurate
* Following work through from enquiry to completion (very “sales/recruitment” in style)
* Spotting improvements and taking initiative to make things run smoother
What you’ll be doing
General administration
* Handling phone calls and inbox queries
* Record keeping, updates and maintaining accurate logs
* Planning/programming tasks as required
* Supporting the wider team with day-to-day administration
Maintenance support focus
* Taking calls from members of the public about street lighting issues and providing excellent customer service
* Acting as front of house for office visitors
* Raising and monitoring fault tickets in the Asset Management System
* Managing insurance claims where assets have been damaged and costs need to be recovered
* Supporting inventory/system accuracy and maintaining precise records
Business support focus
If you enjoy the “deal flow” side of work, this is where you will really shine:
* Preparing and issuing quotations
* Liaising with clients and progressing enquiries through to completion
* Coordinating and planning site works with supervisors/managers
* Keeping project trackers and systems updated
* Looking for opportunities for additional work-winning
Quality, compliance & competence
* Coordinating building asset compliance (inspections, maintenance, scheduling)
* Supporting internal quality control and audit readiness
* Completing and monitoring BIM checklists/issues
* Owning and monitoring training/competence records—booking courses to keep teams compliant
* Supporting HEA/HERS compliance requirements
My Contribution Champion mindset
* Bringing forward ideas, sharing good practice and helping improve how the contract runs
Who we’re looking for
Essential
* Confident using MS Office
* Experience in an office administration environment
* Strong customer service experience (phone/email—ideally with members of the public)
* Positive, enthusiastic approach with a willingness to learn
* A very high level of accuracy and care—you’ll take ownership and keep records detailed and correct
Desirable
* Familiarity with database and mapping systems
* Exposure to street lighting/highways (not essential)
* Experience supporting training/competence compliance
