Overview

The successful candidate will bring a strong track record of producing high-quality visual content and will make a positive impact on the profile and understanding of Bangor University for our target markets. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive our brand reputation, support student recruitment and engage our audiences in new and authentic ways.

Purpose of the Job

The Digital Content Producer will be responsible for creating engaging, high-quality video and authentic short form video for web and social platforms, that brings Bangor University’s brand to life. Working closely with the Brand Team, Student Recruitment, the Social Media Officer and the Digital team, the post-holder will produce visual content that supports student recruitment campaigns, strengthens brand reputation, enhances our online presence, and drives traffic to our website and social channels.

The role will also help shape authentic student and staff stories, working with contributors across the University to highlight the distinct experiences and opportunities Bangor offers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plan, storyboard, shoot and edit video and photographic content for recruitment campaigns, web, social channels and other touchpoints.
2. Operate professional camera, lighting and audio equipment for projects both on and off campus and liaise with staff, students and external partners to coordinate shoots, secure permissions, organise logistics.
3. Produce motion graphics and basic design assets to support video and social content, working collaboratively with the Graphic Designer.
4. Create and adapt content for social media platforms, web pages and other student touchpoints, translating emerging formats and trends into compelling visual content.
5. Work closely with the Social Media Officer to ensure alignment with channel strategy and target audiences.
6. Collaborate with Student Recruitment colleagues and the Social Media Officer to plan and produce authentic, student-generated content briefing students, supporting them on shoots, ensuring contributors understand project aims, and guiding them through the production process.
7. Oversee the University’s YouTube account. Uploading, managing metadata, optimising content for reach, and ensuring alignment with brand and compliance standards.
8. Monitor and report on content performance (e.g. reach, engagement, click-throughs, website traffic) and provide insights to the Brand Team to inform future content planning and demonstrate impact.
9. Ensure all content meets Bangor University’s brand guidelines, Welsh Language Standards, accessibility requirements (e.g. captions, alt-text) and digital best practice.
10. Maintain the digital asset library: manage file organisation, metadata and version control, ensuring assets are stored according to standard procedures.
11. Support the wider Marketing, Communications & Recruitment team with content delivery as required, including updating brand web pages or other brand-related tasks.
12. Provide support for key marketing and recruitment activities of the department.
13. Undertake other duties and responsibilities as required by the Academic Colleges Marketing & Brand Manager and other senior colleagues.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

19. 2 AS Levels or 1 A Level or NVQ level 3 in a relevant subject area or have equivalent relevant experience.

Desirable

20. Evidence of continuing professional development.

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

21. Proven experience producing video and photographic content from concept to delivery, including scripting, storyboarding, filming, interviewing and editing for web and social channels.
22. Experience creating and adapting online content for a range of audiences and platforms, including social media and websites.
23. Flexibility to occasionally work irregular hours (evenings/weekends) to meet project needs.
24. Working knowledge of social media platforms and how to implement engaging video or visual content within them.

Desirable

25. Experience supporting or mentoring student contributors or working with user- generated content.
26. Experience producing basic graphic design or motion-graphics assets (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
27. Strong photography skills.
28. Experience using digital asset management systems or content management systems (CMS).
29. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) in a working environment.

Skills/Abilities

Essential

30. Competent in camera operation, lighting and audio recording, with practical knowledge of production techniques for different environments.
31. Proficient in using Adobe Creative Suite (including Premiere Pro, After Effects or equivalent editing software).
32. Strong storytelling skills and understanding of audience engagement across digital platforms.
33. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
34. Strong interpersonal and team-working skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students and external partners.
35. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable

36. Understanding of how new technologies or digital tools can support the development of web and social content.
37. Experience of filming and editing vox pops or interview-style content.
38. Awareness of current developments and trends in digital and social media, including short-form and authentic video formats.

39. The ability to speak and write Welsh fluently in a wide variety of situations is essential for this post.
