The role

We're looking for a creative and digitally skilled Learning Designer to join our Learning and Development team.

In this role, you'll design and deliver engaging, inclusive learning experiences that support the professional and career development of staff across the University. You'll play a key role in enabling strategic change—such as the introduction of new systems or ways of working—by creating user-centred, effective learning that's aligned with University priorities.

Reporting to the Head of Learning and Development, you'll collaborate closely with colleagues across the People Directorate and wider University, including project teams and subject matter experts.

Applicants seeking to strengthen their expertise in digital learning design are welcome to apply. As part of our commitment to professional development, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to complete a Level 5 Digital Learning Designer apprenticeship alongside the role, if not already qualified.

About the team

The Learning and Development team sits within the Organisation Effectiveness and Development function in the People Directorate. We shape and deliver learning that builds the capabilities needed to achieve the University's 2035 Strategy.

Our work spans digital learning design, face-to-face delivery, apprenticeships, and leadership and management development. We partner with Academic Enhancement and Development and Researcher Development to support career progression, and with teams such as Digital, EDI, and Strategic Change to strengthen key capabilities across the organisation.

What will I be doing?

* Designing and delivering a mix of digital and live learning experiences, including e-learning, microlearning, multimedia, and in-person sessions.

* Collaborating with project teams and subject matter experts to understand learning needs arising from system or process changes and translate these into engaging, user-focused learning solutions.

* Evaluating learning impact using feedback and data to continuously improve design and delivery.

* Maintaining the quality and usability of our Staff Learning system (LMS), ensuring a positive user experience.

Ensuring learning materials are accessible, inclusive and aligned with best practice in digital and adult learning design.

What skills do I need?

Essential:

* CIPD Level 5 or equivalent in Learning and Development, or Digital Learning Design.

* Experience creating blended learning (e-learning, video, workshops, etc.) using user-centred design.

* Ability to analyse learning needs linked to organisational change and translate these into measurable learning outcomes.

* Strong digital skills – able to use e-learning tools, video conferencing, LMS, and multimedia platforms confidently.

* Knowledge of adult learning theory, learning transfer, and inclusive instructional design.

* Skilled in using feedback and data to iterate and improve learning content.

* Confident communicator and facilitator who can adapt style to suit diverse audiences and learning formats.
