We are excited to offer a 2-year fixed-term opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking planning professional to join North Lincolnshire Council as a Principal Development Management Officer – Major Applications.
Based at Church Square House in Scunthorpe, with the flexibility of agile working, this role places you at the heart of one of the most dynamic periods of growth and transformation the area has seen.

As part of the Humber Energy Estuary, our Development Management Team is involved in a variety of high-profile projects, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, energy-related transformation, port-centric activity and the innovative developments emerging from the Humber Freeport. As a Principal Planning Officer, you will play a critical role in managing and delivering major residential and commercial planning applications, guiding strategic schemes through the formal planning process and ensuring high-quality outcomes for local communities.
You will work confidently and collaboratively with applicants, agents, councillors, residents and partner organisations, using your expertise to navigate complex proposals and drive progress to agreed timescales. You will also provide leadership and direction to other professional officers within the team, helping to support a positive, solution-focused working environment.
To thrive in this role, you will need a degree or diploma in planning or a closely related discipline, along with RTPI membership or eligibility for membership. A strong understanding of planning legislation is essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly, negotiate effectively and manage competing priorities with confidence and professionalism.
