Offer description

We are excited to offer a 2-year fixed-term opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking planning professional to join North Lincolnshire Council as a Principal Development Management Officer – Major Applications.

Based at Church Square House in Scunthorpe, with the flexibility of agile working, this role places you at the heart of one of the most dynamic periods of growth and transformation the area has seen.

North Lincolnshire is a rural county full of character, with picturesque villages, extensive green space, excellent schools and an attractive, affordable housing offer. Its strategic location and strong motorway and rail connections make it easy to reach key destinations across the North East, Yorkshire and the East Midlands. Alongside its natural assets, the region is continuing to experience significant investment across infrastructure, housing and regeneration.

As part of the Humber Energy Estuary, our Development Management Team is involved in a variety of high-profile projects, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, energy-related transformation, port-centric activity and the innovative developments emerging from the Humber Freeport. This is a genuinely exciting time to be part of shaping the future of the area.

As a Principal Planning Officer, you will play a critical role in managing and delivering major residential and commercial planning applications, guiding strategic schemes through the formal planning process and ensuring high-quality outcomes for local communities.

You will work confidently and collaboratively with applicants, agents, councillors, residents and partner organisations, using your expertise to navigate complex proposals and drive progress to agreed timescales. You will also provide leadership and direction to other professional officers within the team, helping to support a positive, solution-focused working environment.

To thrive in this role, you will need a degree or diploma in planning or a closely related discipline, along with RTPI membership or eligibility for membership. A strong understanding of planning legislation is essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly, negotiate effectively and manage competing priorities with confidence and professionalism.

Joining our friendly and progressive team comes with a range of benefits, including:

• A competitive salary

• An attractive relocation package

• A comprehensive induction

• Excellent CPD opportunities

• Generous annual leave entitlement

• Local Government Pension scheme

• Salary sacrifice scheme

• Agile working arrangements

This fixed-term position offers a fantastic opportunity to build experience at a senior level, work on nationally significant and transformative development projects, and make a tangible contribution to the future growth of North Lincolnshire.

Please see attached job description and employee specification which you should refer to when completing your application to demonstrate you meet the essential criteria for the role.
