We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the head and neck specialist nursing team at Bexley Wing, St James's Hospital. Our small, friendly, and proactive team supports patients with head and neck cancer from diagnosis through to end of treatment, whether curative or palliative.
We seek a highly motivated and diligent nurse capable of working independently and within a team, with excellent communication skills and a passion for improving patient experience. The role involves contributing to the development of the service through audit, education, and training. The position offers an induction package and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Relevant experience at band 5 level is required.
The post reports to the band 7 team leader, with responsibilities across Bexley Wing SJUH and cross-site reviews at Leeds General Infirmary and Leeds Dental Institute.
Main Duties
1. Clinical Responsibilities: Provide leadership and role modeling in delivering high-quality care, undertake clinical procedures, and maintain a safe environment.
2. Patient Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care using specialist skills; manage own workload; supervised by the nurse specialist team leader.
3. Freedom to Act: Refer patients and make assessments within policies and protocols.
4. Communication: Maintain accurate records, support patients and families, liaise with community services.
5. Education & Training: Train junior staff and learners, participate in personal development, and educate patients and carers.
6. Leadership & Management: Investigate incidents, monitor workload, promote evidence-based practice, and contribute to policy development.
7. Research & Audit: Contribute to research, undertake audits, and participate in clinical trials.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential): Registered Nurse (RN Adult or RN Child, Level 1 or 2), recognized teaching/assessing qualification, evidence of CPD, willingness to train.
Skills & Behaviours (Essential): Compassionate, lateral thinker, motivated, positive, assertive, flexible, adaptable, stress management skills.
Experience (Essential): Current healthcare issues knowledge, recent relevant experience as a Band 5 nurse or equivalent, involvement in audits and standards setting.
