We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Technical Writer to support a critical NHS enterprise systems. This role focuses on the support, documentation and maintenance of secure systems used across Estates and Facilities Management, helping ensure the reliability, security and compliance of core hospital services.
Their enterprise systems function develops custom software solutions using Visual Studio and SQL Server Integration Services, creates business intelligence dashboards and analytics and manages the full lifecycle of applications including CAFM, building management systems, design services and document management platforms.
Your role would be working as a hands-on senior technical specialist role, focused on understanding, stabilising and documenting enterprise systems rather than line management or people leadership.
WHAT WILL YOU DO ?
Rapidly understand and assess existing systems, servers and applications, including legacy or poorly documented environments
Carry out end-to-end system assessments covering purpose, dependencies, risks, constraints and operational impact
Perform technical health checks and maturity assessments across infrastructure and applications
Produce clear, structured system documentation including: System diagrams, Inventories and dependencies
Risks, technical debt and lifecycle position
Work pragmatically with systems you may not have designed or previously supported
Provide technical guidance and constructive challenge to Technical Project Managers
Support lifecycle planning by identifying obsolescence, supportability issues and replacement risks
Collaborate with suppliers, central IT teams and internal stakeholders to improve system stability and assurance
Identify gaps in documentation, controls or monitoring that could present service or continuity risk
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESFUL ?
Proven hands-on experience in producing technical documentation within enterprise environments
Experience in assessing systems end-to-end, even where documentation is limited or outdated
Excellent attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach
Experience working across mixed estates including, On-premise servers, Cloud services, Third-party platforms
Understanding system lifecycles, technical debt and operational risk
Working within established security, information governance and compliance frameworks
