Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Vehicle Transport Truck Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial driving, vehicle transport, and vehicle recovery operations, with a strong commitment to safety and efficiency.
Candidates must be based in West Lothian or within a reasonable commuting distance.
As a Vehicle Transport Truck Driver, you will be responsible for transporting cars and other vehicles to various locations while ensuring timely deliveries and maintaining the condition and safety of each vehicle.
This role will involve mostly daily driving. However, there will be nights out when required, and a night-out allowance will be provided.
Please note: During the initial period of employment, hotel accommodation will be provided when working away from home. As the role develops, the position will transition to tramping work, which involves overnight stays in the truck (sleeping in the cab) during the working week.
Duties:
Operate vehicle transporters or flatbed car carriers to deliver cars and other vehicles safely and efficiently to designated locations.
Carry out vehicle recovery operations when required, including safe loading of non-running or damaged vehicles.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with regulations.
Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, routes, and deliveries as required by regulations.
Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
Inspect vehicles before loading and upon delivery, accurately documenting any existing damage.
Secure vehicles properly using straps, chains, and appropriate restraints to prevent movement during transport.
Load and unload vehicles safely, including the use of winches or recovery equipment where necessary.
Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations while on the road.
Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, addressing any questions or concerns from clients.
Skills
Proven experience as a commercial driver, preferably in vehicle transport or car carrier operations.
Familiarity with vehicle transporters, flatbed car carriers, winching systems, and recovery equipment is highly desirable.
Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record.
Strong attention to detail, particularly when inspecting vehicles and completing documentation.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet delivery deadlines.
Comfortable with overnight stays away from home, including future tramping (sleeping in the truck).
Good communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
