Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant – Newport Area
We are seeking a compassionate and committed Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant to join our welcoming team in the Newport area. As a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in guiding pupils through their learning journey. Working closely with teachers, ALNCOs (Additional Learning Needs Coordinators), and other members of staff, you will implement effective strategies that promote positive behaviour, improve focus, and encourage confidence. Your calm and consistent approach will help pupils feel valued, understood, and motivated to achieve.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with behavioural and emotional needs across a range of classroom settings
• Use positive behaviour management techniques to encourage engagement and progress
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils build confidence and self-esteem
• Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt strategies that meet individual needs
• Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all learners
• Promote a culture of respect, empathy, and resilience within the school community
Ideal Candidate
• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in behavioural support or special educational needs
• A patient, understanding, and proactive approach to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Adaptable and reflective, with a willingness to learn and grow professionally
• Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
• Welsh language skills are an advantage but not required
