Senior Pharmacy Technician/Science Manufacturing Technician

Main duties of the job
This role plays a key part in delivering safe, effective, and patient‑centred aseptic pharmacy services. It supports the smooth running of daily operations, ensures a high‑quality service is provided, and, as an experienced and accredited technician, leads coordination of workload, allocates tasks, mentors junior staff, and supports training. It contributes to service development through identifying improvements, updating and implementing SOPs, and works closely with pharmacists, technicians, and support workers to report operational issues, escalates concerns, and acts as a role model for professional standards and Trust values.
Job responsibilities
* Supervise and coordinate day‑to‑day work within the aseptic unit, allocating tasks effectively to meet service demands.
* Ensure safe preparation and supply of aseptic products, maintaining GMP standards, adhering to cleanroom procedures, and performing accuracy checks.
* Act as a role model and mentor, training, supporting junior staff, contributing to recruitment and induction processes.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Pharmacy Technician in the UK by GPhC or registered Science Manufacturing Technician (Apprenticeship Standard – Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceutical Processing) by the Science Council.
* Numerate and literate: GCSE Maths and English A*‑C or equivalent, or IELTS 7 if overseas.
* Additional pharmacy qualifications: Accredited Checking PT (ACPT), Pre and In‑Processing Checking (PIPC), medicine‑management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS Level 4, foundation management, or equivalent managerial experience.
* Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision.
* Completion of Practice Supervisor Programme or equivalent.
* Additional qualifications such as APTUK Foundation Framework, TAQA Medicines Management, or PIPC/ACPT/CIPS level 4.
Previous or relevant experience necessary
* Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital, community pharmacy, or aseptics).
* Dealing with customers/patients.
* Hospital pharmacy experience.
* Stock control/ordering experience.
* Experience with JAC or similar computer labelling/ordering system.
* Experience relevant to the role (e.g., ward‑based medicines management service, clinical trials or research, aseptic services).
Skills
* Effective communication in speaking and writing.
* Teamwork and collaboration.
* Attention to detail and accuracy (e.g., dispensing, calculations).
* Proficiency with IT programmes including pharmacy computer systems and Microsoft Office.

* Experience supervising staff or trainees.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per annum (pro rata).
