The role
As a Lifting Operations Appointed Person, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that all lifting operations across HMNB Clyde are planned, coordinated and delivered safely and effectively. This is a unique opportunity to support critical assets that underpin the UK’s defence capability, working at the forefront of complex engineering and contributing to national security.
Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:
1. Develop and approve lift plans, method statements and risk assessments.
2. Ensure all lifting operations meet LOLER and BS standards.
3. Brief and supervise Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel involved in lifting activities.
4. Support the Lifting Operations Manager in meeting operational KPIs.
5. Mentor team members and contribute to maintaining a robust skills matrix.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and is based on site at Faslane.
Essential experience of the Lifting Operations Appointed Person
6. Strong knowledge of LOLER, BS and lifting‑related regulations.
7. Experience supporting lifting operations within waterfront, industrial or maintenance environments.
8. Understanding of operating procedures within highly regulated or safety‑critical facilities.
9. Proven capability in developing safe systems of work.
10. Background in risk assessment and operational compliance.
Qualifications for the Lifting Operations Appointed Person
11. Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) accredited training.
12. A recognised health and safety qualification such as CITB Health and Safety Awareness, IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Safety Health and Environment for Construction Workers, or equivalent.
13. Working at Height Awareness training.
14. Additional lifting, plant, or safety‑related qualifications - Desirable
15. Experience in defence, nuclear or heavy engineering environments - Desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
