Who is Newcastle Racecourse?
Located within High Gosforth Park, Newcastle Racecourse is home to the historic Northumberland Plate, and is one of Britain’s busiest racecourses, hosting over 60 all-weather and jumps fixtures a year. An ideal venue for all occasions, the racecourse can host events of all kinds, including conferences, exhibitions, weddings, private parties and more. The racecourse shares High Gosforth Park with the Border Minstrel Pub and Parklands Golf Club.
Responsibilities for the successful Greenkeeper include (but not limited to):
1. To prepare and maintain all areas of the golf course and surrounds in accordance with good sports turf management guidelines and the requirements of the company
2. Management of all fine turf areas as required, to ensure that they are in the best possible condition and to the highest standards of presentation at all times
3. Forward planning to include daily, weekly, seasonal and annual tasks. All planning will be recorded along with other relevant data (weather and irrigation) that will allow analysis to identify trends and developments in the course and its conditions providing better information for future decision making
4. To carryout course construction, bunker, tees, greens etc where agreed and as required
5. Presentation of lawns, car park and other clubhouse areas to the highest possible standard
6. Flower beds and hanging baskets maintenance as required
7. To keep all roadways, clear of rubbish/dirt
8. To ensure that all the golf course machinery and equipment is used as per the manufacturer’s general instructions
Please note- This role is fixed term for 12-months.
The person we are looking for as a Greenkeeper has….
9. Previous experience working in the Golf sector
10. NVQ qualification to L3 in Turf Maintenance/Sports Turf Management, or equivalent/higher an advantage
11. Full clean UK driving license
12. Spray PA1, PA2A &PA6 an advantage
13. Chainsaw qualifications an advantage
14. Strong communication skills – able to communicate at all levels
15. Strong organizational skills
