The Role
Our Research Development Managers are pivotal in supporting research. You will actively support research project development at all stages from concept generation to bid submission, helping to develop researchers in addition to their research projects. You will support research leadership to embed strategies to improve research performance generally and strategic research income generation targets specifically.
A key source of advice to colleagues at all grades, you will work proactively across disciplines and professional services. You will have a special remit in export control. Ideal for someone passionate about research, wanting experience and insight into research projects, processes and policy drivers in a role with breadth and responsibility. You will work independently and within our strong and well-integrated team. We research widely across STEM and SHAPE.
The Person
You must be capable, enthusiastic, self-starting, interested in multiple facets of research and capable of managing a complex, diverse workload. We are looking for a highly organised candidate with a keen eye for detail and high standards of financial literacy and numeracy.
You must have substantial relevant experience in Higher Education and in research support or a comparable role, detailed knowledge of research funding and related strategic issues. Interpersonal skills and influencing skills will be essential and you should have excellent communications abilities and strong IT skills. Expect to work with colleagues at all levels and form strong working relationships with people from all subjects and backgrounds. Education must be at least degree level - compatibility to research strengths would assist.
Directorate/Function
The Academic Services Directorate includes Research & Impact, Knowledge Exchange, Academic Registry, Quality Assurance and Enhancement, and the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre. Collectively the Directorate supports academics in their research and KE activities and supports some of the University’s governance and decision-making committees, maintains academic regulations, develops and implements academic policies, oversees the quality and standards of academic provision and leads the development of education practices across the University.
The Directorate is responsible for stimulating cutting edge research, impact and knowledge exchange and supporting a vibrant community of graduate research students, to increase the volume, impact and visibility of our research and business activities. We actively liaise with Institutes, Faculties and researchers to support and develop research activities across all disciplines and provide related training and development opportunities. We foster interdisciplinary working to promote, advance and share knowledge with the overall aim of securing new revenue sources and contributing to regional prosperity. Our goal is to foster and sustain a vibrant research culture in which our researchers and research students can flourish.
