Fabulous opportunity reporting to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, you will be a key leader within a busy media relations team and a deputy to the Head of Media.
You will play an active role to protect and promote Bupa's reputation through both proactive campaigns and reactive issues management across its UK and global business lines.
Working closely with the Market Unit Executive and senior leaders, you will have a strong understanding of the external landscape, a sharp eye for news hooks, tactics to achieve media cut‑through and enthusiasm, pace, focus and execution.
Focusing on our strategic campaigns to deliver our strategy, you will proactively build our Bupa story in the UK as the leading provider of healthcare, driver of innovation and an employer of choice, enhancing Bupa's reputation.
You will work collaboratively with stakeholders and the media relations team to lead the development and execution of proactive, strategic consumer and corporate PR campaigns that demonstrate thought leadership and align to commercial objectives, bringing fresh go‑to‑market tactics that deliver impact across channels.
You will feel confident in reputation management, supporting on complex issues and anticipating changes to the external environment.
As with all members of the media relations team, you will have regular exposure to the Bupa CEO, executive and leadership teams in the UK and be capable of working with leaders at a senior level, as well as representing Corporate Affairs confidently, working flexibly and demonstrating sound judgment with our centre of expertise.
How you'll help us make health happen
* Lead the strategic development and delivery of high impact media campaigns to support our refreshed Market Unit strategy, key business initiatives and growth priorities.
* Work with the BGIUK Executive Team to create and deliver thought leadership momentum, seek and propose opportunities for impactful proactive corporate and consumer PR aligned to Bupa's strategic objectives across insurance and provision business lines of high quality, on time and within budgets.
* Demonstrate an integrated campaign mindset, landing campaigns across owned, paid and digital channels to drive the greatest reach and return on investment.
* Be a strategic advisor to senior stakeholders on the media environment and the impact of business decisions.
* Lead on CEO profiling, identifying opportunities and managing briefings to strongly position Bupa with key journalists and within national press.
* Plan and deliver strategic and tactical responsibilities independently and manage agency support.
* Build and maintain relationships with all levels of management within Bupa and the wider Internal Communications and Government Affairs teams.
* Build relationships with key media on behalf of Bupa to strengthen understanding of our business, generate goodwill and minimise negative impact.
* Ensure senior executives are media trained to the appropriate standard and fully briefed prior to any media interview.
* Be a deputy to the Head of Media – supporting as their second in charge and leading on key projects and internal stakeholder meetings.
* Liaise externally with stakeholders, customers and relevant industry bodies.
Your experience and competencies
* Proven experience in pitching, planning and delivering thought leadership‑led, creative corporate and consumer PR campaigns.
* Agency experience and some in‑house experience would be ideal.
* Skilled in managing complex issues for major brands, handling national, regional and specialist media enquiries and able to effectively handle negative media enquiries.
* Media contacts across national outlets.
* Ability to assume full responsibility for key projects, with excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent writing skills, and the ability to translate content for use across multiple channels, including traditional PR materials, op‑eds.
* Analytical and solution‑focused.
* Demonstrable technical expertise in the execution of digital and social media communications and campaign activity.
* Highly creative and energetic with a flexible approach.
* A collaborative, reliable team player who commands respect and confidence from colleagues and stakeholders.
* Attention‑focused with brilliant time management and project execution skills.
