Uro-oncology CNS is a key role within the multidisciplinary uro-oncology team. The role includes co-ordinating and delivering complex care to patients as well as supporting research activities. The CNS plays an active part in developing the service, and ensuring it is high quality, patient-centred, efficient and in line with national cancer standards. The CNS is the patient’s key worker will manage their own clinical caseload, highly providing specialist nursing input and continuity of care to patients at each stage of the pathway (diagnosis, treatment, surveillance and longer term follow up). The post-holder is also expected to facilitate the development of other nurses in order to benefit patient care and to be an educational resource to all members of the trust wide multi-disciplinary team (MDT) regarding nursing practice in the provision of care.
Main duties of the job
1. To communicate and work in partnership with all members of the MDTs to ensure a seamless pathway of care for patients from diagnosis through treatment and follow up care
2. To be an autonomous practitioner and manage own caseload and work with colleagues to provide the highest possible standards of care for patients diagnosed with Prostate, Testicular and Penile cancer.
3. To support and co-ordinate patient’s / family / carer from diagnosis onwards through all stages of their disease and treatment modalities and utilise excellent communication skills to complete appropriate onward referrals for your cohort of patients.
4. To act as point of contact and offer to be the Prostate, Bladder, Renal Testicular and Penile ‘keyworker’ for patients and their families and carer.
5. Ensure the Holistic Needs Assessments are completed for all patients at key points of their cancer treatment pathway. You will be required to liaise with and ensure referral and appropriate signposting onto allied health professionals and services as required

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
7. In conjunction with the Lead Cancer Nurse, identify education and training needs of relevant staff and develop education programmes to meet the identified needs.
8. Ensure learning materials are available in clinical areas.
9. To be responsible for undertaking all statutory and mandatory training updates.
10. Act as specialist resource and provide information and advice for staff both in primary and secondary care settings through a variety of formats.
11. Provide training to staff / professionals within Trust/ community on unknown primary cancers and their treatments
12. Assist in producing any relevant literature to aid patient and health professional information.
13. To ensure and be responsible for continuously updating specialist knowledge and skills in relevant field.
14. To be responsible for one’s own knowledge and awareness of all relevant Trust policies and protocols.
15. To present and attend local, regional and national conferences as required and as deemed applicable.
16. To actively participate in formal/informal education sessions within the trust and with external organisations including university programmes.

17. Degree in Adult Nursing
18. Registered Nursing and Midwifery council
19. Minimum 1 year experience
