Unit Role: Army Reserve Light Cavalry Regiment. To prepare suitably trained, equipped and motivated officers and soldiers for operations both overseas and in the UK in support of SCOTS DG and regular units, as individuals and as contingents. Position Role: Squadron Officer Commanding (OC) C Sqn. The Sqn Ldr is responsible to the Comd Offr for the discipline, training, readiness, wellbeing, welfare and operational performance of the Sqn. The Sqn Ldr answers to the Comd Offr, but must take relevant direction, coordination and advice from the Regt 2IC. Responsibilities: Oversight of the Sqn’s wellbeing in terms of morale, physical and mental health. Oversight of the welfare of the Sqn and, where appropriate, its direct families. Welfare is not to be left purely as an issue of the Welfare Team, rather where appropriate there is to be command drive and interest in appropriate issues. Oversight of the Sqn’s discipline which is usually implemented by the SSM. Where appropriate exercise (with suitable training having been done) the discipline powers of a sub-unit commander. Provide oversight and QC of all MS in the Sqn. 1RO (and drafter of 2RO and 3RO where directed) for all Offrs and SNCOs in the Sqn. 2RO (and drafter of 3RO where directed) for Cpls. Attend Grading Boards for Cpl-WO2, 2Lt-Capt. Give appropriate career advice using CMO input where required. Attend the Unit Health Committee and be prepared to brief the state and remedial plans for Sqn personnel if/when they have health issues. Ensure the Regt E&D policy is implemented in the Sqn. Ensure the Sqn’s accountable items, including weapons, are secure iaw relevant policy. Ensure the Sqn follows requisite direction and policy reference the security of information. FGen personnel as directed in support of operations. BPT assist RHQ in the estimate of any operational requirements. Provide oversight of Sqn Equipment State including vehicles, weapons and ancillaries. Provide oversight of the Sqn’s Training Programme. Provide oversight of the Sqn’s individual ORACLE (individual activity and training) entries. Provide Sqn advice to RHQ as to how the FOE may be implemented. Provide oversight of the Sqn’s CIS competence. Ensure a Safe System of Training is adhered to at all times.
