Assistant Subject Leader for Religion, Society and Life (RSL)
Location: Horndean Technology College, Barton Cross, Waterlooville, Hants PO8 9PQ
Salary: MPR/UPR + TLR 2c - £3526 per annum
Contract: Full time, required from September 2026

Responsibilities
* Support the Department to ensure the curriculum of RSL and Sociology at KS3 and 4 are delivered to a high standard with positive outcomes.
* Support a programme of personal development, Tutor and assembly, careers education, relationships, sex and health education.
* Demonstrate a drive for improvement and a willingness to use initiative to achieve excellence for all, in line with the vision of the Subject Leader.
* Contribute to curriculum design and revisions of current schemes to meet the needs of students.
* Engage with the Hampshire Living Difference IV Religious Education Locally Agreed Syllabus at KS3 and deliver AQA GCSE Religious Studies A (focus on Christianity and Buddhism) and Eduqas GCSE Sociology at KS4.
* Support the department in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, and participate in professional development and induction programs.
Qualifications and Experience
* Interest in curriculum design and a passion for revising schemes to meet student needs.
* Experience with KS3/KS4 curriculum delivery in Religious Studies and Sociology (AQA GCSE Religious Studies A and Eduqas GCSE Sociology as indicated).
* Ability to contribute to personal development, tutor work, assemblies, and PSHE-related education.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
What the School Offers
The Religious Studies Department.
Based on the Hampshire Agreed Syllabus – ‘Living Difference IV’, RS is taught in Years 7 and 8 as a discrete subject to mixed ability groups. Religious Studies is a GCSE option from Year 9. The GCSE course followed is set by AQA specification A with a focus on Christianity and Buddhism. The department also teaches Sociology as a GCSE option (WJEC/Eduqas specification). The department aims to provide active learning, uses ICT where appropriate, and fosters links with other departments. It follows whole College policies on assessment, equal opportunities, PSHRE delivery, homework, marking, rewards and sanctions, and key learning skills.
Note: If called for interview, you will be expected to plan and teach a lesson as part of the selection procedure. Staff new to the College participate in a comprehensive induction programme to foster the College’s ethos and practices.
