Head of Technical - Corporate Events
Salary: Up to £60,000 (DOE)
Location: Swindon

We are recruiting a Head of Technical on behalf of a leading corporate events and live production business. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the planning, resourcing, and operational delivery of all technical services across corporate events and AV projects. The role combines hands‑on technical oversight with strategic leadership, financial control, and continuous operational improvement. It is well suited to an experienced technical leader with a strong background in live events, team management, and complex project delivery.
The Role
The Head of Technical leads the technical function across all projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery. This position oversees internal technical teams, freelancers, equipment management, system usage, and compliance, while supporting live projects and driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Team Development
* Lead and manage the day‑to‑day activities of the technical team
* Conduct regular 1:1 meetings focused on wellbeing, performance, and development
* Run monthly team meetings to review operations and gather feedback
* Promote professionalism, accountability, and ownership across the team
* Identify training needs and development opportunities
* Support recruitment of Technical Production Managers when required
* Act as the first point of escalation for technical or operational issues
Resource Planning & Allocation
In collaboration with senior project and warehouse leadership
* Review upcoming projects and allocate internal technical resources effectively
* Balance workloads, skills, and team pairings
* Coordinate freelancers when internal resources are unavailable
* Schedule prep, site, and de‑rig activities
* Ensure appropriate technical coverage during peak periods and holidays
* Manage and communicate resource changes clearly and sensitively
Project Planning & Delivery Support
* Support Technical Production Managers across internal and external projects
* Review project quotes, technical specifications, supplier arrangements, and graphics
* Oversee the accuracy of equipment lists, schematics, CAD drawings, and construction drawings
* Ensure CDM documentation, RAMS, and compliance paperwork are issued and tracked
* Coordinate logistics, crew plans, transport, and timings
* Liaise closely with warehouse operations regarding prep, deliveries, and collections
* Provide live project support and elevate issues where required
* Approve supplier invoices against the correct purchase orders
Equipment & Stock Management
* Monitor stock levels and identify equipment shortfalls
* Coordinate cross‑hire and temporary stock solutions
* Raise and approve purchase orders for equipment hire and shortfalls
* Ensure accurate equipment allocation and tracking within internal systems
* Contribute to CapEx planning and future equipment investment decisions
Financial & Administrative Oversight
* Approve timesheets, overtime, holiday requests, and time‑off‑in‑lieu
* Ensure accurate tracking across internal systems and dashboards
* Monitor overtime and accrued lieu to avoid excessive build‑up
* Approve purchase orders in line with budgets and operational needs
* Maintain accurate records for payroll, reporting, and audit purposes
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
* Review post‑event performance and implement operational improvements
* Identify opportunities to enhance resource planning and technical delivery
* Benchmark technical operations against industry best practice
* Maintain consistent, high‑quality onsite delivery standards
* Drive innovation in technical execution and equipment investment
Reporting Structure
* Leads the Technical Team
* Works closely with senior project and warehouse leadership
* Reports into executive leadership
