Key Responsibilities:
A Cost Engineer in the UK nuclear defence sector plays a vital role in ensuring projects are delivered within budget while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency. The duties of a cost engineer in this sector typically include but are not limited to the following:
* Estimate Development: Define scope, methodology, and scheduling for estimation activities.
* Problem Resolution: Provide guidance and expertise in tackling complex estimating challenges.
* Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Ensure inputs from engineering, supply chain, and construction align with estimating standards.
* Estimate Accuracy: Establish key parameters, including pricing guidelines, material take-offs, escalation considerations, and labour productivity factors.
* Benchmarking & Analysis: Compare estimates against completed projects for accuracy and improvement.
* Documentation & Governance: Prepare Basis of Estimate and compile necessary documentation for internal and client review.
* Quality Assurance: Support check estimates, peer reviews, and forecasting processes.
* Reporting & Metrics: Collate actual and accrual hours, manage cost and variance reporting.
* Estimate Tracking: Oversee the "Estimate at Completion" process for project evaluation.
Key Requirements:
* Strong analytical and numerical abilities.
* Proficiency, Understanding in cost estimation software (e.g., Primavera P6, SAP, Business Central, or bespoke tools).
* Knowledge of project management principles (e.g., PRINCE2, APM frameworks).
* Understanding of Cost Management and Contract Management such as NEC.
* Management of EAC Process.
* Earned Value Management, Stakeholder liaison, forecasting.
