About Aberavon Hospital
Aberavon Hospital is our specialist mental health service in Wales. The hospital supports adults with complex mental health needs and provides structured therapeutic interventions, recovery-focused support, and a safe and stable environment.
The service operates under Welsh legislation and Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) standards and is registered for 18 beds. You will work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team and maintain strong working relationships with Local Health Boards, commissioners, and external partners.
About the Role
As Clinical Lead Nurse, you will play a key role in maintaining and developing high standards of nursing and clinical care across the hospital. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining direct clinical practice with responsibility for clinical governance, staff support, and quality assurance.
You will support the Registered Manager in overseeing the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care, providing clinical leadership to nursing staff and the wider care team. You will also take responsibility for the hospital in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing strong clinical leadership and acting as a role model for best practice
2. Ensuring compliance with HIW standards, NMC requirements, and internal policies
3. Overseeing clinical standards, care planning, medication management, and record keeping
4. Supporting, supervising, and developing nursing staff and wider clinical teams
5. Contributing to audits, inspections, and continuous quality improvement activity
6. Responding to clinical concerns and emergencies appropriately and escalating when required
7. Working collaboratively with external professionals, commissioners, and partner agencies
8. Supporting a recovery-focused, therapeutic approach across the service
About You
You will be a confident and experienced registered nurse with a strong background in mental health services and clinical leadership. You will be committed to high standards, supportive leadership, and person-centred care.
You will have:
9. Current NMC registration
10. At least two years post-registration experience
11. Experience working in a mental health or hospital setting
12. Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
13. A clear understanding of clinical governance, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance
14. A values-driven approach aligned with Rushcliffe Care Group
