Veterinary Surgeon – No Corporate Spin, Just Real Medicine in NW London
Are you a confident vet who loves solving problems, not just treating conditions?
Do you want to practise real veterinary medicine - with time, support, and the space to do it well?
Are you done with corporate spin, late nights, and being stretched so thin you can’t give your best?
If you’re nodding along, keep reading.
About the Job
At Roundwood Vets, we believe pets should live well - and people should thrive alongside them (that’s you, us, and our clients).
Here’s what matters most in this role, your Big 3 Responsibilities:
* Identify pet health problems or wellness actions effectively.
* Communicate the issue and the plan with clarity and empathy.
* Deliver the solution using support from the whole team.
We’re looking for a full‑time vet (RCVS registered). Typically, that’s five 8‑hour shifts between the hours of 8.30am – 8pm, but if four longer days suit you better, let’s talk. You’ll also work one Saturday morning in three (8:30–12:30). That’s it. No on‑call, No Bank Holidays!
About Us
We’re not like other practices. Independent. Cooperative. Culture‑first. Voices are heard, and our mission is clear:
To be London’s most trusted and people‑first independent veterinary practice — setting the benchmark for meaningful care and showing that thriving teams create thriving outcomes for families and their pets.
Our values aren’t posters on a wall or slides in a powerpoint for investors; they’re woven into our decision making and culture. We live up to them daily and go about our work with: honesty, kindness, conscientiousness, teamwork, fun, and a mindset of growth.
This is what our departing team members have said over the past few years (no, we didn’t bribe them and yes, we stay in touch - we see former teammates as alumni; friends with whom we had the privilege of writing some life chapters together. They go with our gratitude):
“I love every aspect of coming to work — the team, the clients, the pets, and the practice’s unique culture. Roundwood is such a rare gem, where positivity, kindness, and support shine through in everything we do.” — Dr Bhav
“The rota allows excellent work–life balance. Clinical freedom, but support on tap. I could not have asked for a more fun, kind, and hardworking group of people.” — Dr Eliza
“What sets this place apart is how team feedback is actually acted upon. If you’re looking for a place where you’re heard, supported, and able to grow, this is it.” — Dr Seb
That’s who we are.
About You
You’re a vet with at least three years in small animal practice - maybe more. You’ve got the foundations down, but you want to stretch further, not stagnate. You’re confident in your skills but humble enough to ask for a second pair of eyes when needed.
You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:
* Competent and comfortable with routine surgery and dentistry (and keen to keep growing).
* A communicator who builds trust with clients, teammates, and families.
* Organised, efficient, and proactive – the kind of vet who keeps the ops day flowing without wrecking the vibe.
* A wellness advocate who believes prevention is as important as cure.
* A team player who contributes as much support as they take.
Neither arrogance nor timidity are helpful for your colleagues or for pets - neither works here. Confidence with humility is the sweet spot we’re looking for in our team.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* RCVS registered veterinary degree.
* Ideally 2–5+ years small animal experience (or second‑jobber with grit and ambition).
* Surgical confidence (routine ops; GI work, happy to develop deeper skills).
* Comfortable with imaging and diagnostics – but like to bounce ideas both ways with colleagues.
* Solid dental skills and enthusiasm to improve further.
* Clear, empathetic communication in consults.
* Leadership in the day‑to‑day flow of practice (delegation, time management, decision‑making).
* Resilience, emotional intelligence, and self‑awareness.
Benefits & Compensation
We value your work, so here’s what you’ll get:
Immediate
* Salary: £40,000–£60,000 depending on experience.
* Time Off: 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays + your birthday off.
* Development: Regular check‑ins.
* Pet Care: Discounted pet care.
* VDS Cover
* Pension: Following 3rd full month of employment
Flexible perks after passing probation
* Bonus: Production bonus.
* Health: Private medical insurance.
* Development: Unlimited CPD budget, career growth opportunities.
* Sick Leave: Paid sick leave (further details available).
* Regulation: RCVS Fee paid.
