Reports to: Superintendent radiographer
Key Responsibilities
* Provide safe transfer of patients to and from CT and MRI scanners, including from wards and the Emergency Department
* Assist patients during transfers and throughout their time in the scanning department, providing reassurance and comfort
* Prepare patients for scanning, getting them changed, providing oral preparation, assisting them in and out of scan rooms and on/off scanner tables
* Assist Radiographers and Radiologists with IV cannulation, biopsies, drainages, and other interventional procedures
* Organise daily departmental throughput in conjunction with Radiographers, checking referrals and noting special preparation instructions
* Set up trolleys and assist with clinical procedures, maintaining aseptic fields as required
* Assist the Radiographers and the Superintendents to facilitate the smooth, efficient running of the scanning departments
* Monitor stock levels and ensure availability of adequate supplies, including contrast media
* Use departmental radiology information systems to register and track patients, check results, and manage appointments
* Answer telephones and deal promptly with enquiries from patients, doctors, and hospital staff
* Adopt a flexible approach and assist with other duties as requested by the Superintendent, radiographer, and clinical manager
Development & Progression
* Progression from Level 3 to Level 4 qualification with structured support and training, where vacancies allow.
* Trust-wide progression opportunities up to Level 6.
* Radiographer apprenticeship pathways; we have supported RDAs to progress into radiographer roles.
Essential
* NVQ Level 3 in care or relevant modules
o Or demonstrated equivalent experience in a care setting
* Literacy, Numeracy, and keyboard skills
* ICT skills
* Desire to deliver compassionate hands‑on care in the hospital environment
Desirable
* GCSE English and Maths
o Or equivalent qualification
* To be articulate in expressing ideas
* Good Standard of Education
* Knowledge of the NHS
* Previous experience within a hospital setting and/or the diagnostic imaging department
Skills and Knowledge
* Care skills from any relevant background (care, healthcare, or similar people‑focused roles)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Good organisational skills
* Good attention to detail
