Job Description:

Your impact

Are you a skilled and motivated Engineer looking to join our dynamic team, responsible for leading the development of a new surveillance radar?

The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the development of the ‘Osprey 55’ Antenna. This challenging role requires leading the Antenna product through the development lifecycle including requirements capture, conceptualisation, solution development, integration, design proving, qualification, transition into production, support strategy development and new product introduction activities.

Success will require the bringing together of Systems, Electronics, Firmware and Software engineering functions to design a product that meets future surveillance customer requirements while minimising development and recurring costs. This role requires technical expertise, strategic thinking, and effective communication skills to create the next generation flagship surveillance radar and enhance our innovation-driven environment.

The Lead Electronics Engineer role sits within the design authority structure for the surveillance radar sector, with clear future progression opportunities. The role represents a fusion between oversight and authority of the product development, whilst maintaining “hands on” technical opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead and “own” the technical development of the Antenna in line with the company life cycle management process
2. Make timely and informed decisions that balance technical risk, performance and functionality versus financial and time constraints. Work closely with key technical stakeholders to ensure they are aware of ongoing decisions and involved in key decision-making phases.
3. Engage in collaborative relationships with subcontractors where advantageous to the project.
4. Engage with Manufacturing, Production, Supportability and Test Solutions to ensure the design, margin control and test strategy are suitably understood to ensure though life production and in field operation. A focus on technology re-use (past and future) will be a strong theme within the development.
5. Collaborate closely with the project management to ensure the right balance of talent in the team to tackle design challenges, optimize team performance and meet project objectives.
6. Stay informed about new technology trends and assess the suitability of state-of-the-art innovations for inclusion into Osprey 55 and future products. Enhance the pace of development using the latest technology in system modelling, rapid prototyping and benchtop early integration techniques.

What you’ll bring

7. Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or related science or equivalent work experience.
8. Expert-level proficiency in at least one aspect of electronics design, for example: analogue, mixed-signal, digital or power electronics.
9. Experience of team leadership and work package management.
10. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach less experienced members of the team.
11. Good knowledge of developing electronics within a development process framework.
12. Able to demonstrate experience in most areas of the design lifecycle from requirements definition through to implementation, integration test and delivery.

Security Clearance

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
