Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has around 1.2 million patient contacts a year. We provide healthcare to the people of Swindon and the surrounding areas, offering the latest treatments and care in hospital, in the local community and in people's own homes.
We provide a range of specialist services from the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, located just off junction 15 of the M4. Our large and modern hospital has around 480 beds, numerous outpatient clinics, CT and MRI scanners, maternity services, an Intensive Care Unit, an Urgent Care Centre and a 24/7 Emergency Department.
We also support people to stay well and out of hospital, to manage long term conditions and provide care in local community facilities and in people's own homes across Swindon.

Job Overview
This role is offered on either a full time or part time basis. This means that candidates interested in working full or part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis subject to hours offered.
Come and join us at this exciting time, we have just opened our new Adult emergency department in the Summer of 2024, and our new Children's emergency unit in November 2024.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high quality care to a defined patient group either within the acute hospital setting. They are responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence based individualised patient care within the boundaries of their role. The post holder will contribute to the continuing development of standards of care including developments of nursing standards and monitoring of outcomes. The post holder will be expected to continue with their own professional development.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Plan, deliver and evaluate compassionate nursing care to meet the patients individualised needs.
* Ensure the highest standards of care and safety are maintained.
* To be responsible for the assessment of individual patients using the appropriate programme/models of care and ensuring co-ordination and implementation of the discharge assessment process and appropriate multi-disciplinary referrals.
* Responsible for the safe custody and administration of medicines, using a range of routes (once competency achieved) within the NMC Standards for Administration of Medicines and adhering to local policy.
* To support the nurse in charge with the day to day planning, the delivery of a high quality nursing service and the continuous improvement of that service.
* Promote patient involvement in care planning, Implementing and sustaining communication systems to keep patients and their relatives/families informed of treatment and progress.
* To ensure effective communication is achieved and maintained of sensitive information, with regard to the patient assessments and clinical details.
* To act as a role model, ensuring high quality, professional standards are maintained and delivered at all times.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* First Level Registered Nurse
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Current/live registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council
* Further qualifications relevant to the role
Desirable criteria
* Diploma/Degree qualification
* Leadership qualification
* Mentor/Supervision Course
* Completed/completing the RCN National curriculum and competency framework for emergency nursing level 1
Experience
Essential criteria
* Recent experience nursing patients in an acute / community setting or recently completed a Return to Nursing course
* Experience within a range of patient/client care groups
* Working within a multi-disciplinary team environment
* Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing knowledge and practice after qualification and Preceptorship
Desirable criteria
* Experience working within an Emergency department
Skills
Essential criteria
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Able to undertake audits
* IT Literate
* Good interpersonal skills and is able to deal with difficult/sensitive situations
* Ability to prioritise and organise own workload
* Willingness to undertake training and assessment for further clinical skills.
* Ability to document details clearly and accurately
