The Opportunity
A growing and high‑performing Residential Building Consultancy team is seeking an experienced and client‑focused Building Surveyor to join their East Sussex office. The team delivers a full range of building surveying and project management services across residential and rural estate portfolios. You will work closely with private clients, estates and investors, providing expert advice on the repair, maintenance and enhancement of a wide variety of homes - from modern residential properties to prime and historic buildings - often in close collaboration with other professional disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
1. Complete technical due diligence including pre‑acquisition surveys, defect analysis and condition assessments.
2. Deliver core professional services such as reinstatement cost assessments, planned maintenance programmes, party wall matters and neighbourly advice.
3. Prepare detailed specifications, schedules of work and tender documentation.
4. Manage refurbishment, restoration and conversion projects from inception through to completion, including full contract administration.
5. Provide clients with clear, strategic advice aligned to their objectives and relevant regulations.
6. Advise on statutory compliance, including planning, building regulations and health & safety requirements.
7. Support senior colleagues with client relationship management and help identify new business opportunities.
8. Produce high‑quality written reports and client-ready documentation.
9. Mentor and support junior colleagues as part of a collaborative team culture.
About You
10. MRICS or MCIOB qualified Building Surveyor with experience across a range of project types.
11. Strong background within the residential sector; experience with listed or heritage buildings an advantage.
12. Solid technical knowledge in areas such as building pathology, construction methods, compliance and retrofit standards.
13. Proven contract administration and project management experience.
14. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
15. Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of client priorities.
16. Organised, proactive and capable of managing a varied workload.
17. Positive team player with leadership potential and confidence in developing client relationships.
18. Calm and composed under pressure, with excellent attention to detail and strong time‑management skills.
Qualifications
19. Relevant degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) or equivalent.
20. MRICS or MCIOB (3-5 years PQE preferred).
21. AutoCAD proficiency desirable.
22. RIBA membership/qualification is an advantage.
