Water Quality Maintenance Technician
Location: Sussex and Kent areas
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Up to £32,000 depending on experience + option to earn overtime payments (once qualified).
About the role
As a Water Quality Maintenance Technician, you’ll play a vital role in improving water quality by carrying out mains flushing—a process that removes sediment and particles from water mains to reduce customer contact and enhance service. You’ll be part of our Network Infrastructure Programme Team, where health and safety is at the heart of everything we do.
No prior experience in the water industry? No problem. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who bring fresh ideas, strong attention to detail, and a passion for doing meaningful work.
What you will be responsible for:
1. Inspect network assets and identify issues before work begins
2. Carry out mains flushing and field activities in line with Southern Water policies and RAMS
3. Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Control Room teams to minimise customer disruption
4. Record and submit flushing data via company systems and mobile apps
5. Report site incidents and near misses with mitigation actions
6. Deliver excellent customer service and respond to queries in the field
7. Seek continuous improvement opportunities to enhance team performance
What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential
8. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across counties
9. Strong communication and people skills
10. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing situations
11. Attention to detail and stakeholder awareness
12. Physical resilience to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Desirable
13. Mains flushing or water network experience (preferred but not essential)
14. NRSWA street works experience (preferred but not essential)
15. Experience in water industry.
