Overview
At NextGen Ri Ltd, we’re working at the forefront of advanced robotics integration—developing and deploying next-generation quadruped and humanoid systems across the UK and Europe. As a Robotics Reinforcement Learning Engineer, you’ll join a fast-paced, collaborative environment, shaping the capabilities of the most advanced robotic platforms available today.
This is a 6-month position with the strong potential to become a permanent role for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
* Proficient in Python and C++, writing efficient, modular, and well-documented code optimised for embedded and GPU platforms.
* Deep understanding of bipedal robotics: low-level control, gait generation, balance optimisation, and whole-body coordination via sensor feedback.
* Proven experience with Reinforcement Learning (RL) — design, train, and deploy advanced RL policies using custom reward shaping, domain randomisation, and curriculum learning.
* Simulation-to-Reality (Sim2Real) expertise — transferring simulated behaviours to physical humanoids through calibration, sensor fusion, and model-based tuning.
* Skilled with Linux, NVIDIA Omniverse, Isaac Gym / Isaac Lab, and GPU-accelerated workflows.
* Strong communicator with a collaborative mindset, comfortable working alongside mechanical, electrical, and software teams.
* Integrating RL policies into ROS2 or custom real-time control frameworks.
* Sound understanding of control theory, inverse kinematics, and state estimation (IMU, LiDAR, vision).
* Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX (distributed training preferred).
* Familiarity with MuJoCo, Gazebo, Isaac Gym, or Bullet for physics-accurate locomotion training.
* Deployment on Jetson Orin, x86, or edge compute platforms.
* Experience in robot calibration, sensor alignment, and actuator dynamics modelling.
* Background in Model Predictive Control (MPC) or optimal control is a strong advantage.
* Contribution to or familiarity with open-source humanoid/quadruped frameworks (Unitree SDK, OpenAI Gym, DeepMind Control Suite, etc.).
* Ability to document and visualise results clearly, presenting complex data in a structured way.
