Main Duties
* Provide leadership to the healthcare team.
* Identify, manage, mitigate and review departmental risks (clinical, operational, financial, reputational, compliance, knowledge and people) and support the development of risk management frameworks.
* Develop positive working relationships across the site, with operators and key external stakeholders.
* Maintain the healthcare risk register in consultation with the Head of Clinical Operations.
* Actively participate in relevant forums such as partnership board, clinical governance board, LDQB, partner meetings, healthcare QCRM, compliance and policy meetings, medicine management meetings and other SMT‑representative level forums.
* Exercise oversight of the recruitment of clinical staff and ensure they have comprehensive induction.
* Ensure the clinical team can undertake clinical supervision, with key staff trained as supervisors.
* Monitor delivery of training to meet needs identified in health development plans and skill‑needs analyses.
* Ensure sound performance and attendance management.
* Ensure systems are in place for clinical incidents, promoting a lessons‑learned culture (e.g., medicines, SI reporting, radar reporting, patient complaints).
* Maintain infection prevention, control and environmental hygiene standards.
* Promote patient safety and quality.
* Monitor compliance with information governance requirements.
* Deliver positive progress within NHSE performance metrics and against CQC action plans and clinical audit action plans.
* Recognise good performance and foster staff engagement.
* Embed a cycle of clinical audit across domains with clinical colleagues.
Accountabilities
* Improve staff engagement, recruitment and retention.
* Maintain robust performance and attendance management.
* Ensure active patient engagement processes with valuated service‑user feedback.
* Complete PDRs within timescales and of high quality.
* Maintain positive relationships within the site and with key stakeholders.
* Embed a culture of continuous service improvement.
* Maintain systems to capture data and trends relating to complaints, radar reports, audits and actions to drive improvement.
* Ensure CPD addresses skill‑needs gaps.
* Ensure new staff receive appropriate induction for safe and effective practice across clinical and security domains.
* Maintain a balanced focus on security and care.
* Manage risks proactively.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* Experience at Senior Nurse Manager / Senior Manager level, preferably within a prison or secure environment health setting.
* Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
* A strong moral compass and value‑based leadership.
* Understanding of clinical governance processes.
* Sound judgement in a politicised environment.
* Effective networking with agencies and organisations.
* Strong commitment to continuing professional development.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of commercial financial management processes.
* Risk management skills.
* Knowledge of clinical IT systems (SystmOne).
* Budget management experience.
* Degree or Master’s level education.
