Specialist Education Mental Health Team Leader to work in the Mental Health Support Team (Reflexions)

Band 7, 37.5hrs, across Black Country – base locality to be determined and agreed

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced accredited mental health practitioner to be part of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Support Teams across the Black Country.


Main duties of the job

This team provides the opportunity to develop work in the field of young people’s mental health and wellbeing, with a focus on whole school approaches to mental health and wellbeing and the development of think family approaches within schools. The mental health support teams provide CBT, guided self-help, parenting and whole school approaches, and offer support to young people through partnerships with external agencies.


Working for our organisation

The post holder will be knowledgeable and experienced in staff matters such as sickness management, supervision, performance issues and staff wellbeing, and will have a good understanding of mental health problems in children and young people. Carrying out mental health assessments including risk assessments will form part of the role. The postholder will act as the link between the team and CAMHS to ensure appropriate care and interventions, and will be experienced in multi-agency working. Support, advice and consultation to families/carers and other professionals involved with the child/young person will also be provided.

The post holder will work in partnership with Locality Clinical Leads to develop partnership working between Education, Local Authority, CCG and CAMHS, so excellent communication skills are essential.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants should be experienced in children and young people’s mental health at a senior level with leadership and clinical skills to support the Mental Health Support Team. Experience of working with schools and delivering mental health promotional collaborative work is beneficial.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and/or adults.

* Core profession (HCPC, Social Care, Nursing or recognised degree level or broad based health and social care qualification, with BABCP Knowledge Skills and attributes).
* Postgraduate (Masters and above) level study.
* Management of staff experience including supervision and sickness/performance monitoring.
* Experience of specialist mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and young people.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of child mental health problems across the age range and levels of clinical severity, maintaining professionalism in emotive situations.
* Able to travel across the Black Country easily.
* Qualification and registration in CBT.
* CYPIAPT Supervisor training for high intensity CBT or willingness to undertake.

The salary range quoted follows NHS Agenda for Change pay structures. This is based on NHS experience; non-NHS experience may be appointed at the lowest point unless equivalent experience is demonstrated and incremental increases may apply in future years. Some posts may be subject to DBS checks.
